Baseball left the Big 12 with a whimper.

Not sure where to post this but I was watching Iowa vs Illinois in the Big X baseball tournament. Iowa had the bases loaded with no outs, down 4-2 and hit the ball to the 1st baseman. He went to 2nd, the Iowa runner slide into 2nd, it appeared to be a straight slide with no contact and the batter beat the throw to 1st. So you’re thinking it’s 4-3 with a man on 1st and 3rd and 1 out.

But no! The ump called interference on the base runner going into 2nd which means he’s out, the batter is out and the other runners have to go back to 3rd and 2nd with 2 outs. Of course Iowa request a review which the announcers thought showed a clean slide and the call would be reversed. I too thought the same thing as I have no dog in this fight.

Ump comes back from the review and states the call was CONFIRMED! Of course the Iowa head coach goes ballistic, rightfully so, and gets ejected. The next batter ends up striking out and Illinois wins the game 4-2.

I’m not sure what the replay official was looking at but Iowa got screwed.
