...austin is beautiful...
and due to the simple fact that I spend the majority of my time working abroad (theater of afghanistan) I have had the ample opportunity (as time permits) to visit great cities all over the world. however, due to my utmost adoration of all things UT, I try and schedule a game or two whenever possible.
this year, I chose the "ut vs osu" game due to all of the hoopla and sensationalism presented by mack brown during th off season. I felt that this particular game at this time... would indeed be an optimum experience as per the longhorns projected "big XII" standings. I lodged at the "w" hotel downtown austin, and had a fabulous time. game day experience, was simply sensational as usual... thousands upon thousands of "longhorn" fans equally anticipating greatness...
as I sat in the stands... yes, I did come to notice just how somber the mood was. it just was not "electric" as the time we played West Virginia upon last year. But then again, I am astute enough to know that "longhorn" fans are simply some of the most "sophisticated" fans around. some love to refer to us as "country club fandom"... well, I like to think that "texas" fans are some of the most football knowledgeable fans in the world, and if this makes us "sophisticated" then so be it... but still it does not mean that we do not have spirit...
a few items that in my simple view... that would enhance the game day experience:
1. place the "longhorn band" back along the sideline seats the way that they used to be. who's stupid idea was it to place the band away from the fans and the team... and put them into the endzone. the aggie band, is right there upon the sidelines as per their team. which therefore enhance the overall experience during the game.
2. dkr, is in dire need of "completion" the sez expansion cannot start soon enough. stadium looks haphazard vs foolish by today's high state of the art architecture / standards.
3. steve patterson, needs to walk around, and start speaking too and acknowledging the fans. because trust me, texas fans are ready willing and able to discuss the myriad of issues pertaining to "game day" experiences....
other than this, I love my horns, I love my school... and yes, I love austin...
