that would be me.

i realize there are multiple threads on this but .......so what? here's another one.

I was here when DKR came, and then Akers, McWilliams and Mackovic and finally Mack.

i am 100% behind this hire. i am thrilled with it. beyond thrilled the more i think about it.

i'm one of the one's who would have been a bit disappointed with a saban hire. i would have been happy with fisher or malzahn or one of the harbaughs, but i am 100% tickled with this hire. 100%.

beyond the football reasons, it forever destroys that latent racist perception that is frequently used against us in recruiting. people don't want to hear the race argument and complain that it shouldn't be part of the discussion and to some extent they are right, unfortunately it was still there. like it or not. one of the elephants in the room.

now it's gone. forever. i love it.

the aggies hiring sumlin was one thing, but this is arguably the premier brand in college football. certainly one of the top 3-5, and now it has a black head coach. the old arguments people used against texas behind the recruiting scenes is gone. and he's a great coach and wonderful recruiter to boot.

we win. thanks, Louisville.

also, thanks Mack. you made a difference and you left the place better than you found it. 158 wins in 16 years is pretty easy math. but now there's a new era coming and i couldn't be happier with the change that was made. i applaud steve patterson for picking the right guy and not just the political hot choice du jour.

Very well said AS! it's refreshing to see someone say thanks to Mack on here. lol.

Slim, as another old timer who has been around a long time, I endorse everything you said.

This is a fabulous hire, and i am very excited about it. The man is a great coach and will be a great role model for the players. Patterson hit a home run.

Charlie was very impressive. Well spoken and enthusiastic.

I get a sense that he will be a good recruiter.

Still reserving judgement until I see what is produced on the field.

Yes you are right......Strong is a great coach and Patterson did hit a Homerun... HOOK'EM and I do mean HOOK'EM.

Armadillo Slim,

Visited with a customer of mine in Plano yesterday. His wife had given him a special gift for Christmas and he wanted to show it to me.

Remember your sig pic of Clark Field in 1927? His wife took your sig pic, had it blown up larger and made into a plaque for him.

His parents' house can be seen in that photo just past left center field fence.

Just thought you'd be interested in knowing your sig pic had an influence on Christmas this year. :)

I love it when you guys tell stories about the great commanche raids and walking to school uphill both ways in the snow in your bare feet . ..

:)

His sig pic is in 1967 in a playoff game v. UH, and the pitcher is either me or Tommy Moore.

Thanks echeese for giving us old farts the recognition we so richly deserve! While enjoying my walk this morning along Buffalo Bayou, I noticed my feet being uncomfortably cold. I cannot figure out how at sixteen, I made it five miles back and forth to school bare-foot, in the snow. Congrats to Coach Strong! He seems to be a tough sob, which is exactly what we need. Hook'em!

I maybe close to AS in age but he has more hair then me. I do agree with everything he said,
