Article:The Real Problem with the Texas Men's Basketball Program

That article did not make any sense. Filling up the arena has no bearing on the product on the floor. The product on the floor is what is the driving force on if the arena if filled!

That was a very difficult article to read!

The point being is that the atmosphere at Texas is whats wrong with the program, not the coaching. I think the point is valid in respects that its not a great basketball energy environment. Kids come in because of Barnes and his staff, not the basketball environment. Mack gets the nations best because the facilities are the nations best. Look at the improvements to DKR, UFCU-DFF, and McCombs Field vs. the lack of basketball improvements. I know they built a nice practice facility, but the home court is no advantage. Texas' commitment to basketball does not equal Barnes commitment to basketball.

Especially from a Texas Ex. Sounds like he is bitter about the first round tourney exit just like us!

I think djbfootball brings up a good point though. Look at Kentucky and North Carolina and Kansas basketball - the students are what make the atmosphere exciting in conjunction with a great sports team. Encouraging greater student participation/presence at basketball games should be a priority for UT. When I was at Texas in the early - mid 90's I went to a few basketball games but I wasn't crazed about it like KU/Duke students were about their basketball teams. Football was and is King at UT. Maybe we expect too much from a basketball team living in a football school's world?

As I said, does UT has the same level of commitment to basketball as Rick Barnes does? I don't think, just look at the facilities.

If you are referring to the Erwin Center I agree they need to do something else. That place is 35 years old. I know they remodeled it about 10 years ago but they need to overhaul that bad boy. Maybe go back to playing in Gregory???!!!!!!
