Article: The Longhorn Heard

There's going to be so many eyes on Heard in August, regardless of Ash's health and the depth chart. Most fans will have their mind made up about the season and who should start before the UNT game.

It's gonna be delightful.

He makes all the right points in the article. Heard could very well be the right guy for the job now while ensuring the future of the position. Ash's health is the X-factor.

Problem is, it could be the difference between a good and a not so good year.  Sure would like to see Heard come in and kick some ass, but considering the odds, I sure would better like to see him getting to have a redshirt year.

I'm thinking this kid might LIKE being thrown in the fire!

You are probably right  What kid wouldn't like that.  And, I would like nothing better than for there to be a story book ending.  I guess my greatest concern is, how likely is that best case scenario ending to come to be?  And, even worse than that, what is the likelihood that getting thrown into the fire shell shocks the kid.  I don't know, there is what I would like to see happen and what might happen in a worst case scenario.  It is not going to be anything that we can have any control over, but it is going to be a hell of a lot of fun to watch, huh?  ;)

Moving forward (in 2015 and beyond) I feel really good about the QB position with Heard on board and Gentry coming.

Eagles, same song:  "They will never forget you until somebody new comes around"

Duke!  You Sneaky Pete! ... now everybody got to stop and listen for five whole minutes while our consternations about the resolution of our quarterback dilemma goes unsolved!  Shouldn't you be over on Far West ... you know, Far Westing with some music and all?  ;)

I'm hoping either Ash or Swoopes takes control of the offense,  IMHO, Heard needs to redshirt his freshman year.

Of course no-one knows, but great players want the ball and this guy wants the ball. He has been in the limelight for a couple of years now and it has only made him more confident in his ability and he has an abundance of ability. With Charlie Strong and staff guiding him along I see the next QB at Texas! I'd like to see it take a year, but don't think Ash will make it past game 3 and Swoopes just doesn't seem to handle the decision making requirements very well. Maybe Strong and company can help Swoopes live up to his potential.
