Article on Patterson's chase of Jim Mora

The Longhorns came after Mora with a Texas-sized pitch back in January. They met for four hours at a private home in Manhattan Beach, an eye-opening experience, even for somebody as seasoned as Mora, who had already been an NFL head coach at two different stops.

He was up-front with the Texas brass about how important it was for his parents to be at games. They live in Palm Desert and make the two-hour drive to Pasadena for every home game. His father is even around some for practices.

During those conversations, Texas offered to send a private jet to pick up Mora's parents, and anybody else he wanted, and bring them to all of the Longhorns' games.

"I'm like, 'Is there a bottom to your bucket?'" Mora said he remembers thinking at the time.

But the more he thought about it, the more he kept coming back to one central theme: He finally felt at home with his entire family, and it certainly helped that UCLA's administration stepped up to the plate and made a significant financial commitment to both Mora and his staff.

I think I would rather be blissfully ignorant of this and continue to assume that Strong was the first choice.

As Strong said, he doesn't care if he was the 1st choice or 20th - he's just happy to be here!  I gotta believe CFS was in the Top 5 pool of HC candidates.  His resume speaks for itself.  My dream choice was Harbaugh, but that's all he was - a pipe dream.

I just wanna see CFS open it up on offense this Saturday!  Let Tyrone take some shots.  Play to WIN vs playing not to lose.  \m/

why on earth is mora coming out with all of these intimate details at this time?  i find this account silly, unprofessional, and ridiculous.  should TEXAS want these intimate head coach recruiting details to become a media circus, then kirk bohls would have been handed the story.... right?

You're right.

Nothing more than psyops here.  Just shows me Mora and UCLA are more worried than we thought about this weekends match-up.

Pete and monarch are right.  Is Mora even telling the truth about all of this?  Who knows?  We certainly don't, and neither does anyone else.  If any of the story is true, Charlie had already talked to Patterson a couple of times, Mora was most certainly a backup, just in case Charlie decided he wanted to stay in Louisville.

Sorry, Jimmy, we got our Number 1.  You didn't interview until January?  hmmm, kind of late, if you ask me.  If it smells like a backup plan, it's a backup plan.  Oh, and no, there is not really a bottom to the bucket, Charlie knows all about it, first hand.  Sorry, bud.

Hook 'em, Strong!
