Dizz,Saban. If not give me Briles
I'm having a hard time reconciling this with the fact his son went to Texas. Just seems curious to me, not doubting you.Dizz,
I wrote this in another thread but think it is apt here.
I know I'm an old fart but I just don't want Briles. For oh so many reasons but suffice it to say, and this goes back to his time in the high school ranks where many of my kinfolk still make a living, Briles didn't miss an opportunity to defecate on UT, its history and, (some night remember this quote from a specific coaches convention in San Angelo), "...the most overrated university of nothing."
Sorry folks, (for me) he's just not the kind of person or leader that UT football needs right now.
Hook'em!
I hear you. Mel Maxfield, Tom Kimbrough and Gerald Spence (non related to me former and current Texas HS coaches) can verify.I'm having a hard time reconciling this with the fact his son went to Texas. Just seems curious to me, not doubting you.
I have zero inside info, or personal interaction with Briles. I do feel the need to shower whenever I see him coach, or speak. Just comes across to me as slimy.I'm friends with a BU alum who actually played for BU in the 80's. He has a son who was a reasonably ranked prospect/recruit and he had the chance to meet Briles and watch him recruit his son. Over lunch a couple weeks ago, when the topic of Briles to UT was brought up, my buddy immediately jumped in and said that he was perhaps the most disingenuous recruiter and coach he ever met. As a BU grad and ex BU player, he would not let his own son play for Briles.
I'm against Briles for no other reason than I trust my friends judgement and know how much he wanted his own son to play at Baylor. I think Briles isn't the right answer and merely is the easiest answer.
This was told to me by my brother and cousin who interacted with those I mentioned along with Briles on different occasions over a few years span beginning in the late 80's. Brence, who went on to coach at Burleson and beat Briles and ended Stepehenville's win streak in the 90's later recounted much the same when he went to Plano and again with Maxfield who replaced him at Burleson. (The occasion came up when Briles took the Houston job.)Hornrush, can you please provide some more specifics for those who would like to investigate? For instance, what year was this convention etc.? To whom was it said? Was it reported anywhere, or is this anecdotal? I think this is more relevant information in terms of the coaching search than people may realize when overlayed with other actions/comments attributed to Briles in the past.
