ANYTHING SPRING FOOTBALL!!

This is an interesting quote from Higs, sounds like he questioning Gilbert's coaching

"They are running plays every 10-12 seconds..that is not realistic...its very simple.....in practice currently...if the WR runs a 40 yard fly route and the ball is incomplete OR caught guess what happens? The WR walks right off the field, 40 yards away the ball is moved five yards UP regardless of the play---the DB has to sprint all the way back down the field to get lined up.....while a new fresh WR gets lined up....they can't run the offense like that in a live game with an umpire..it can't happen...if the WR runs a deep route THEN must come all the way back to the LOS they can't run a play in 10-12 seconds its not possible and IF he runs off the field and another WR runs on the field l ike they are doing guess what happens? the umpire stands over the ball and allows the D to sub in players...either way they are not running plays in games that fast....either way, next saturday they will have live scrimmage with umpire etc and we will see how it goes.....and no, you will never see me say coaching off film the following day is a good idea, not in my opinion...I believe Texas over paid for this hire based off credentials absolutely...just look around at what OC's are making that are proven at this level. Riley made 500K last year..."

I know chip has been around a long time but when it comes to his evaluation of talent and actual Xs and Os how much stock do y'all put in his opinion
Personally, i tend to read as many different perspectives as possible and try to find a common denominator. Due to weather, media didn't have much access last week.. He was one of the few they allowed to view practice inside the bubble.
Then again, how many "journalist" can truly give an accurate talent assessment that's equivalent to a Coach?

What a goofball comment by Higgs. Maybe, just maybe, there's a reason Gilbert's doing this. Keeps the O moving. Keeps the D hustling back. Wax on wax off. But wait, you can't do that in a game! He's overpaid! Bad hire!

Higs is full of crap. Oh wait, maybe Sterlin didn't know they couldn't do that in a game. Glad Higs helped him out. Oh wait! Maybe it's to get more reps. Are more reps bad? I wonder what Higs thinks...don't? Nope, don't care.

We are going to be open to criticism/second-guessers until we prove it on the field.

And I'm OK with that. It is up to Charlie and crew to prove them wrong.

If that is a quote from Higs, I find it strange as well.I dont care how realistic at the first week. The whole point is to teach the offense to press forward and run more plays. yes,yes,yes....I understand that it wont work that way in a game and that the umpire will allow time for sus to come in IF AN OFFENSIVE player substitutes in....big deal! He is trying to establish up tempo and the only way to do it is to run the plays fast!

Gilbert is charged with training and installing an OFFENSE!...The defense will just have to try and keep up. It is good training for what they will face in the conference. I cant believe Higs went all Saban on Gilbert.

It is the job of the offense to screw up the defense with anything at their disposal. It is the job of the defense to blow up anything the offense tries to do.

Bob Knight (crazy but a phenomenal coach) use to say he wanted his practices to be so difficult that it made the game seem easy. I would bet money Briles runs his offensive practice the exact same way. Higs is an idiot for that comment... On a more concerning note. It seems the T-Shirt All American T. Swoopes has once again practiced himself in to an apparent starting gig. If Swoopes is the starter opening day our season will be awful. The very least the staff could do is let someone else "lose" the QB job. We have been down this road so many times. We don't need a backup thrust into the starting role after Swoopes blows it. He's matured, his confidence is high, he makes all the throws, his decision making is tremendous, ect, ect, ect... HE IS NOT A WINNER!!! Nothing else matters. You can't coach IT and you can't see IT in practice. Come on guys don't do this.

Higdon is an old school guy. I can tell from past comments he's not a fan of uptempo and spread teams/coaches. His comments about Gilbert have more to do with perceived biases against specific styles of play than anything else.

I don't agree with Higdon at all, but I'm not surprised based on some other things he's said. He's not a fan of uptempo/spread guys.

It really is pretty simple if Swoopes is the starter and does not perform the Strong era is over at Texas.

Swoopes great kid But not a Winner--If he is the starter that means 4-5 loses. I so believe the new coaches will not go with that. Hope not regardless I'll be in the stands come Sept.

I am hoping that Heard will somehow look more like the guy that hit Burt on the button running flat out 50 yards away and less like the guy that kept short arming passes from 10 yds. I am hoping he will look more like the guy that sliced up Cal with his brilliant running and less like the guy later in the season that kept turning 2nd and 2 situations into 3rd and 14 by running out of bounds instead of throwing the ball away.......Is that too damned much to ask?

How about Bueschel (goddammit....it took me 2 years to be able to spell Moorer) will gain 15 pounds of good bulk between now and Sept.......I dont want much....I said please

If Swoopes is the starter and does perform, the Gilbert era will be short lived at Texas because the HC offers will be flowing to him. I heard Chip Brown say this last week. Gilbert would be viewed, as a miracle worker.

Good article from Chris Hall about Gilberts offense and the pro's and con's of running practice s fast.

Basically team is as fast as possible and as many reps as possible, coach on the fly with key phrases. Correct in film later.

Slow down indo drills and walk and talk players through every detail and fundamentals.
