I know chip has been around a long time but when it comes to his evaluation of talent and actual Xs and Os how much stock do y'all put in his opinion

Great point about Shane "getting a mental rep."

I've told you guys before that I coached Shane's oldest brother, Garrett, in Select Baseball. I can't tell you about Shane during those two years as he was much younger. But, Garrett (who also liked to be called "Boo") was a serious, hardworking baller. Sure, he had fun with the other guys and was well liked by all of them; but during drills and games he was always resolute.

His dad, Steve, never interfered with my coaching, made demands, or even displayed a "watchful eye" at practices. Whenever I asked him something, he would quietly and thoughtfully answer; whenever I requested that he demonstrate a technique or coach a drill, he always complied in a respectful and serious manner. Shane's mom was a wonderful person who exuded much confidence while being quite personable with everyone.

So, why am I telling you this?

Because I think what I witnessed with Garrett and what I'm "hearing" with Shane is directly attributable to their parents' character, dedication to their children, and the confidence and professionalism they instilled in them.

It's why I was so excited when Shane committed to UT. It's, also, why I can believe every positive article or blurb written about him.

Do I expect Shane to be our starter on September 3rd? I can't rule it out from what I've said above. In the end, however, I want whichever quarterback will help bring back "My Texas Longhorns!"
