Any suggestions for a new baseball coach?

I guess this is my point. Augie has made the CWS 8 out of 18 years (2 times in the last 4 years so it's not like he's sucking it up in recent years). 

Give me names that might be close to an upgrade? I see names like Josh Holliday....a guy that's never even made a CWS as a head coach.

Yeah, Texas lost to OU tonight.  It sucks, it hurts, it's disappointing.  The season looms as a disappointment.

That said, Augie Garrido is the all time winningest coach in the history of College Baseball.  He brought home

two NCs for UT and coached UT into the CWS numerous times. IMO, the man still wants to win and is capable

to continue coaching.  To continue coaching at the same level he has always maintained.  IMO, he has earned

the right to retire when he damn well pleases. I am proud to have had him as Baseball Coach at the University of

Texas and I will be until the day he retires, WITH CLASS AS HE DESERVES, from the University of Texas.

Augie won't be fired this year nor should he be. But ' He'll retire when he damn well pleases' leads to Bowden. Or Paterno.

Landry got fired. So did Shula. There does come a time.

There's absolutely no reason Augie should be fired after this year, IMO. 

I don't completely disagree with you, but I think if UT continues to go into the tank in baseball, it's likely to happen.  That's why I posted the OP.  I'm not here to bury Augie...but I think discussing a successor is a valid thing to do.  I'm also not convinced that Patterson would pick Skip to replace Augie.  Booting assistants up to replace head coaches doesn't appear to be his way of doing things.

Coaching is a "What have you done for me lately?" business.  That's just as true in baseball as it is in football and basketball.  I suspect that if Augie comes under review, it will be more for this season than for his past track record.  I don't particularly like it that things are that way, but they are, and there's some evidence out there that it's not a good idea to grandfather (pardon the pun) formerly successful coaches into a job until they decide to retire.

In my opinion, the original question is ridiculous.  It is reactionary to the point of being aggie-like.  

Augie cares about the CWS, period.  The rest of the season is developmental.  To hang in the CWS, we must develop our pitching staff, and if you haven't noticed, we have a great deal of young depth.  That young depth must be developed.  

I am quite certain that a requirement for coaches is to tolerate

Those who are citing the "failure" of one year are a bit shortsighted when evaluating Augie as the Longhorns head coach.  The 2014-15 campaign doesn't appear to be a season which will result in the Horns being one of the nations elite.  The big issue is the magic trick this team pulled off in the 2013-14 season when it lost 10 of its last 18 ballgames and somehow got hot at that right time and pushed its way to Omaha.  The 2012-13 season ended with an overall record of 27-24-1 with the team losing its last 7 out of 12.

2011-12 ended with a 30-22 mark with the Horns losing its last 6 out of 10 games.  So are we really judging Augie on his season in 2011 when the Horns appeared to an elite baseball team?  That's sure a long time ago and a whole lot of folding the tent towards the end of seasons.

Look, I really don't like anyone losing their job, but to pretend as if things have been going well is simply not true. 

Sad but true...every coach in any sport eventually loses his or her mojo for one reason or another.  They all have a shelf life, and the trick for any college athletic department is to recognize when a coach has hit the wall, and make a timely replacement.  Those that don't do that wind up with a Bobby Bowden, or his disciple, Mack Brown.  I don't like to see anyone lose a job, especially a coach I've liked a lot, and I'm NOT saying Augie's hit the wall.  I am saying I expect his review this season to be stringent, and he just may not have any coaching equity with Patterson, especially if this season continues to go in the tankj.  IF that's the case, I expect us to be shopping for a new baseball coach, thus my original question...Who's out there that we might want?

Speaking of basketball, we gave Rick Barnes 8 years without making it past the round of 32, one of those without making it to the tourney, 1 final four in his career, 0 NCs.Augie has 2 CWS recently (essentially an Elite 8), with last year being what amounts to a Final Four appearance + 2 NCs while at UT.

How about we treat Augie like Barnes and let him not make a Super Regional for 8 years in a row before we talk about someone getting fired? I think he's earned that at the very least.
