ERCOT senior director Dan Woodfin: the main factors are frozen instruments at natural gas, coal, & nuclear facilities. Also limited supplies of natural gas. Yet you see a bunch of people in the know saying it’s because of wind turbines and a Republican Texas being forced to adopt green policies.

Adopting green energy at the expense of natural gas, coal, oil and nuclear is a huge mistake; yet plenty on the left think all we need is simply solar and wind energy. I have been in conferences during the Obama Administration and the call for stopping coal was the big mantra.  

 
The whole effort to make gas and fossil fuels so much more expensive, and to get rid of coal altogether, is to make alternative energy more competitive and thus, more of an option.

We're seeing right now why it's not.

In a rational government, we'd see the existence of both fossil fuel energy and alternative instead of trying to rid ourselves of 80% of our energy supply/demand.

 
None of you whipper snappers remember back to the 70'2 when Texas was trying to get a pipeline built from up state New York, or maybe Canada.....to transport WATER from up North to Texas where it could be distributed to drought stricken areas...

The Yankees went ballistic!...Hell no they wouldnt share water with Texas....the only pipelines they wanted were the ones that sent Natural gas from texas to Yankee land.....All of a sudden you would see on damned near every car bumper the sticker...."Let the bastards freeze in the dark"

I see a bit of irony there. The difference is....we are Texans and we will get by just fine without help.....just like we always do.

The Democrats are in charge of Texas?? That’s news to me. Because this is a Texas issue. You can push the false defense of wind turbines and green polices but this is a issue of poor management by the state and ERCOT. They didn’t want federal regulation so they went at it alone. They didn’t enact polices proposed in 2011 because it would cost more money to install piping that would deal with freezing temps. There are plenty of cold weather states that use wind turbines that do not freeze due to freezing conditions. So that kinda goes against your whole wind turbine thing, never mind it’s less than 10% of the energy used here. But thanks Biden for sending generators and diesel here to help with the disaster our state leaders have brought upon us.

Easy to be a Monday morning QB; and Lord knows HornsUp is full of criticism for everyone that believes differently than he does.  
 

One doesn’t spend millions on upgrades without doing a risk analysis.  How often does Texas endure single digit temperatures?  Life has risk and there is no one correct answer as to how many dollars do you spend to lower or eliminate a particular risk.  
 

An extreme case in point.  We could be hit with a nuclear bomb from Iran, Russia or China.  Do we spend billions to reconstruct our power plants and delivery systems to withstand a nuclear bomb?   Probably not.  The cost doesn’t justify the elimination of such a low chance risk. 
 

Was 2011 a warning sign?  Here is 2021 you can argue yes it was.  But what was more important in 2012 and later?  Spending money upgrading your system for an extreme cold weather event which may or may not happen; or provide as much low cost energy as possible to improve everyone’s lifestyle?  Low energy costs has benefited all Texans.  
 

After this extreme weather event, the public may now be willing to pay more for their energy in order to reduce the magnitude of power disruption in the future.  But higher energy costs has their own determents to society; especially those of lower incomes.

So here we go again. The guy who complains about my name calling opens his  rebuttal by attacking me. So no he cannot be upset when I say I think he’s a moron. I think his wife is a moron for marrying him. And his policsci son is probably a moron and a loser who maybe had 10 friends while at UT. 

You’re talking out of your ass. The companies didn’t decide against enacting the polices because they decided that they would rather pass the savings on to the people. They didn’t want to pay the costs. It’s that simple. They have no problem passing on the increased costs of energy to customers and they will likely find a way to do pretty soon.

Those lower income individuals you’re speaking about have likely been without power for 4 days. They have lost whatever groceries they had. They may have busted pipes that will need to be repaired. If they have that, the likely lost property. They may have lost loved ones due to this. They are struggling already due to lack of care people have for lower income families. So yeah I think having to pay a little to make sure that this doesn’t happen again is worth it. Maybe if you care so much about those families, support a state voucher for those at a certain income level to ensure they don’t have to pay an increased price to ensure the state doesn’t suffer again. I would be ok with that because I don’t think it should be decision between affordable energy and not freezing for days. But again, I'm happy with my life, so I don’t need to see others suffer.

So he says you are full of criticism for anyone that doesn’t think like you do.

So you say here he goes attacking you and that he’s a moron, his wife’s a moron, and his kid is a moron. 
 

I’m sure you are the only in the world that sees no difference in the two. The board said quit the personal attacks and that same day and every day since you called someone and sometimes their families names. But you’re the smartest on the board so I bet you don’t see it this way.

Yes that guy has constantly attacked me. He has questioned my mental health so.. he  has kinda been continuing the personal attacks sir. Sorry if you don’t think he has but you can go back and look at his posts. They are filled with personal attacks on me. Also I don’t think I’m the smartest person on the board, I’ve never said I was. I will confidently say that there are people who post on this thread that I know I am smarter than. I won’t lie or pretend that is not the case. And that’s not a personal attack. That’s a fact of life. There will be people smarter than you. There are plenty smarter than me. Also false statement to say that I’ve made personal attacks every day since they said no personal attacks. Hyperbole guy, hyperbole. I haven’t even posted every day so that alone proves your statement is a lie. Their families?? Whose family, outside of the guy who has made attacks on me, have a made attacks on? None. Come on man. You’re playing so hard to the admins to get me thrown off. Thing is, I have a case that I’ve been attacked as well by plenty of people on here. There have been countless races posts on here. If I’m going, I should be followed by plenty of people. If that’s the case so be it. If not, I guess I shouldn’t really care to be on a board that will allow openly racists people to congregate and feel safe.

So you’ve said many times what a lier racist Trump was but now if someone says the same thing about Biden (with video proof) it’s not ok??? Because you only believe your narrative. 
 

No I really don’t want you to get kicked off the board because you’re entertaining in small doses. I just want everyone to follow what they ask us to do and not call people names. You can state your point of view without  name calling or going at peoples families. That’s uncalled for
