Looks like if we had hired Saban we would have Kiffin as our OC.

Alabama hires Lane Kiffin as OC

Alabama has hired former USC coach Lane Kiffin as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, the Crimson Tide announced Friday.

The sides agreed to a three-year deal, a source said.

"We are excited to have Lane join our staff," Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. "He is an outstanding and creative offensive coach who has great experience both at the college and NFL level.

"He has a very good understanding of the game and I have always been impressed with what I saw in the games he called. He coaches with a great deal of passion and enthusiasm, and also does an excellent job as a teacher."

Kiffin was fired as coach at USC in late September after a 62-41 loss at Arizona State. He finished with a 28-15 record in three-plus seasons with the Trojans following a one-year stint at Tennessee in 2009, where he went 7-6 and nearly upset Saban's then-No. 2 ranked Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa.

Saban invited Kiffin to Tuscaloosa last month to visit the football program and evaluate the offense. Kiffin stayed in town for nearly a week and Saban told reporters during his visit how much he respected him as a coach of offense.

While at USC in 2011, Kiffin's offense produced a 3,500-yard passer, a pair of 1,000-yard receivers and a 1,000-yard rusher.

"I've always had the utmost respect for what Coach Saban has done with his programs," Kiffin said in a statement. "Having the unique opportunity to be here last month, I was able to meet some of the great players and the great people in the organization, and I'm very excited to start working with them. We've seen the passion and support of the Alabama fans firsthand, and when that's combined with the storied history and tradition of the program, this is a very special place to coach."

On Thursday, Doug Nussmeier left Alabama to become offensive coordinator at Michigan

That would not have gone over well here. Oc Saban made people squeamish for being in the gray, kiffin would have made them puke.

It's only a three year contract. Could that might be Sabans time frame till retirement.

Crazy hires last few days. Petrino to Louisville and Kiffin at Alabama is nuts. Schools aren't even pretending any longer they care about anything other than winning.

Bama plays in Knoxville next season. THAT will be interesting. Does Kiffin call plays from the booth to avoid flying debris?

Intriguing hire. His play calling with an unproven QB (Kessler) was terrible at the beginning of season. Very conservative. Kessler lit it up down the stretch when Kiffin was gone. Wonder if Kiffin will call conservatively with another unproven QB.

Over the past few years, Kiffin's offenses have picked up some no-huddle, uptempo tendencies common with many Pac-12 teams while maintaining pro-style roots, Brown told AL.com on Friday.

That could explain why Kiffin was viewed as such an attractive candidate to Saban, who has made it no secret that he's at least interested in picking up the pace on offense so long as he can maintain a trademark, dominant running game that can drain clock at the end of a win.

Sounds like what Coach Strong is trying to achieve. A tough dominant running game with an up tempo pace.

Writing was on the wall for Nussmeier - nothing like seeing your replacement at bowl practices "scouting".

John Booty was unproven as well and he did very very well.over 3000yrds passing.
