Aggy is killing it in recruiting, Texas' coach, whomever it may be will need to shift the momentum back toward Austin.

They have the number one de and the number one ath just gave his verbal.

Hopefully our new staff can give the all something to think about before signing day!

It is crazy how A&M caught lightening in a bottle with the SEC move, new coaching energy with Sumlin, and Johnny Manziel. Regardless of how you feel about their long term prospects, they really hit a homerun and have completely changed the momentum in the state. Wild. (and scary)

I personally am not convinced Sumlin is a championship level coach. But, he certainly is recruiting lights out.

I truly think Texas can swing the momentum back pretty quickly in recruiting, including pulling aggie commits, once there is resolution to the coaching search. Sumlin was the kind of hire that A&M needed to make to counter Mack & Co, but that's changed now. Even the second tier guys that people are worried about hiring will balance off any recruiting advantages A&M has enjoyed the past couple seasons and, in the end, I firmly believe that Texas will always be the brand that more kids will want to play for if all other things are equal between A&M and Texas. As much angst as people are having about Strong or Franklin or Mora, those guys still move the meter as compared to the days where we hired Mackovic and McWilliams.

They are also enjoying some recruiting success from the SEC move, but there is now a sample for coaches recruiting against A&M to use and sell that "they had their best player is forever and the best they could finish was 4th in the SEC West". With the 4 team playoff for the National Championship coming next year, it totally changes the landscape of what you sell (and most kid's want the dream that they could play for/win a MNC). Finishing 4th in the SEC West will never get you into that playoff. Finishing first in the Big XII, even if it's not as "strong" as the SEC, gets you to that playoff (in most years at least).

Just like most things in life, there is a cycle to things, and Mack's term had it's cycle. The change in coaching, and the renewed interest and excitement in the program, will cause a shift in recruiting momentum. I think A&M has played every hand they have at this point and we have several things we can still do to pull momentum back our way.

This year with the best player they've ever had (sorry shane lechler) they lost 4 games. next year will be worse. the problem with having your school in college station is you need endless momentum. one hiccup could ruin everything.

I don't know what this "Speedy" Noil kid made on his SAT's, but he sounds dumber than a sack of hammers.

"I'm gonna take my talents to A&M".....thanks LeBron for your legacy. Often imitated, never duplicated. Geez...all this hype for HS boys.

Absolutely no way to prove it, but I will 100% guarantee this board that there are at least a dozen aggy trolls posting here....naturally using "horn" names.

Auburn, Alabama and LSU are doing fairly well also. I'm not so concerned about aggy.

Let's not forget aggy had one of every 10 scholarship athletes unable to start the season this past year due to suspensions. Sumlin isn't exactly building character over there. Getting them to commit is one thing. Keeping them eligible to play is another. Raven, Everett, Claiborne, Kenneth Marshall, Kirby Ennis, Jordan Richmond....

If you are referring to me, that could not be further from the truth. I have a pretty healthy dislike for all things A&M. I am a proud Texas alum. If you are referring to my comments above, there is no denying that A&M is riding a huge momentum swing right now. I don't think it is presenting a crisis for Texas, but to ignore it is to be blind to what is happening in the state and nationally with respect to A&M's exposure / recruiting.

Gents,

Relax a little on the Aggie thing. They have a Heisman winner on their team and there is no doubt he was all of their offense. They had no defense and very little of a running game. After Manziel leaves the team, there's going to be some serious difficulties competing in the SEC. They have just as much as us to fix.

Just my thoughts...

Why should we care about what aggy does? We can't control it. Worry about what we can do and move on.

We don't have a coach as we speak. When we get one, I trust he will right the ship.

Worrying about aggy is fools gold. They just had the best player they will ever see and failed to win as much as a division title. 20-6 overall with losses to every team with a pulse that they played and not a sniff of a BCS game. That's the best they'll see. Literally the only game they've won of consequence was Alabama. And how many of those games would they have lost without Manziel? Alabama, LaTech and Ole Miss last year? Ole Miss and Duke this year? Take JFF off that team over the past two years and they have at least 5-6 more losses. That makes them a barely .500 team. Not worried.

Sumlin isn't going to coach these guys up. He's going to put up numbers, but their defense is terrible and isn't getting any better. They just gave their in over his head DC a raise to $700K a year. As soon as we hire whoever we want things will go back to normal. Not to mention when they continue to get their ass beat by the good SEC teams.

The SEC move by agricultural was a smart one. Sumlin's hire has added recruiting energy as well, and when the dog pile field renovation is complete, it will be a nice recruiting tool as well. One question to ask...how much have the fightin' farmers had to pay for all this? Half a billion for the new digs, and multiple millions to try to hold on to Sumlin at least as long as it takes to get the renovation done. What I'm saying here is aggy has some recruiting tools they haven't had before.

That being said, one, and possibly two things can restore order and get UT back on top in recruiting. The biggest thing is this...Just win, Baby. Winning cures a lot of ills, and the right head coach can get things turned around pretty quickly. The other thing is a more long term project. If the Big XII can't find at least two viable teams to add and strengthen the conference, UT and three other schools are gonna have to take a serious look at realignment, probably west toward the PAC. UT in a PAC conference that's getting better on the field would pretty much checkmate the recruiting advantage agricultural gets from being in the SEC. I do have to admit that UCF right now is looking like a good potential add to the Big XII, but for the life of me, I can't think of a viable twelfth team.

That's why we need the Home Run Hire that would INSTANTLY attract the recruits.

The right hire could still win this year's signing day in a few weeks...
