Saban is TEXAS big. We are the Jones. The entire world laughed at us, and look what we went and did. We pulled NS out of the best collection of talent in the SEC. Finebaum sucks. Bammers are crazy.

In other words, this isn't as much about NS as it is about our opinion and perspective of ourselves. I think we want NS because of how it vaults us back into the spotlight. We WANT to be that big and important in the CFB world. We were relevant for a few years there, but aren't so much any more. We get to buy our way back in. The ego of We're Texas will live again.

Btw, it's the same ego that that drives The Chin to get his players into a frenzy to play us....or the realignment fiasco that put us in the crappiest conference for the next 73 years so that 7% of our fans can watch three games a year on the LHN.

The other choice, be it Strong or someone else, to me anyway, represents working for it. Buckle up and out work the other guy. Reminds me a little of taking the three star QB and making a championship team out of players who want it more and are willing to spill a little blood to make it happen. As good a Saban may be, and I think he is the best in CFB, is he the best for US? Right now? I'm not sure. The more I think about it, the more I want the underdog. The more I want our ego bruised a bit. Maybe the We're Texas should mean we work harder than you. Not that we have more money and more resources and therefore we are better than you. Isn't that the mindset that got us here?

I don't know who will be the coach. I just know that most of us who have our favorites, have them as favorites because of how we view our place in the CFB world. what we deserve and who is a big enough splash to satisfy us...etc. maybe we ought to hire a coach who is willing to set aside arrogance and entitlement and simply work harder and smarter than the other guy?

No matter what, when I look in the mirror of our fanbase this week, I see an awful lot of arrogance and entitlement. I hope we find a way to shed ourselves of that mindset.

Again, I don't know who we hire. I know only one thing, I will cheer loudly for the kids on the field.

Given the events of the past few moments, thought I'd give this a bump to see if I get any comments. It got quickly backburnered to page two with. All the new threads...took me a while to write and sort through my thoughts, I was hoping it would prompt conversation. If not, forgive my shameless attempt.

My bad must have jumped the gun... Thats cool because Im TEXAStrong now! I would have loved Saban/Harbaugh but I will definitely give him a chance.

No worries. I was just trying to reason through why so many wanted Saban so badly and why Strong will be seen as a settle. Also, not that it matters, but I'm a 46yr old MOM. My husband frequently posts, but this one is all me!

Thank you, this is an excellent post!

Great post. I wanted Saban, for all the reasons you set forth in your first three paragraphs. I have two Bama alumni who work for me, and could not wait to rub it in their face....was holding out hope till the bitter end. In the long run, hopefully this will be the better hire. Hook em.

Spot on post. And I am pretty happy about Charlie Strong. This might end up being the perfect move for us.

Great post Ellie! We need more female posters! I admire yourself, whatthewhat, java, hooked76, KellyUT. These are female posters that I'm aware of. Could be more. Sports from a female POV, but sometimes, are insightful and makes the most sense! :)

Spot on. We are legends in our own mind with an inflated self-worth. The best hires are when you catch a rising star who defies conventional wisdom and takes a program to the next level. CS has the potential so let's get behind him and check our egos at the gates of DKR.

Great post Ellie. Who knows, 4 years from now, we could possibly look back and say we hit the ball out of the pack with this hire
