I will call this rumor at this point but we are on it. But I have been told that the announcement that everyone wants could be coming very soon

Update: Friday 6PM Just spoke to someone who is very close to current situation and they confirmed they were told that Mack Brown will 100% will be retiring/stepping down in the very near future. I know this is no new revelation but now that I have heard this from two different informed individuals I finally feel confident it is indeed going to happen.

PLEASE let this be true! PLEASE! I PROMISE I will be less of a dickhead next year (or maybe the year after that) if I just get a new HC for Christmas!

I plan on having the timeline in my Crossfire.
The pressure has been applied!
I linked Saban's contract in a story I did a few weeks back. Aaron has it up on the server. No buyout. he has to give notice before talking to any other school and has to give 30 days notice of termination and can't recruit anyone at the new school unless the new school has previously made contact with the recruit. I saw Mora's name mentioned. Here is his contract. UCLA Head Football Coach Jim Mora's contract - Documents - Los Angeles Times $2.5 mil buyout that drops to $2mil after mid Jan '14.

At this point, I don't really care who we get. I just want the nightmare that has been the last 4 years to end.

You'll get it before Christmas. My guess is it'll happen by December 9th at the latest, two days after Baylor mud-holes us.

I said in my last article, we are so far past the point of making change for the sake of making change. This is good news as long as it's followed by a good coach.

It seems to me that after the Baylor game is soon enough. Otherwise that is another 3 weeks of uncertainty. The shorter the period we have no head coach the better off we are for recruiting.

As much as I want Mack to retire I think the sooner it happens the less chance we actually have of landing Saban unless they lose to Auburn or in the SEC title game. There's no way that he leaves before the title game and there's no way that we wait until January to have a coach in place if Mack were to retire before Thanksgiving. That would be a month and a half without a coach. No school can withstand that.

If Mack Brown is really opposed to having Saban follow him as coach, wouldn't it be in Mack's interest to go ahead and announce soon so as LongviewLobo says it would put the pressure on UT to name someone else to avoid the month and a half without a coach?

It's not like Mack is going to announce his retirement and then leave the state. He'll be able to coach the team through the bowl game before retiring back to North Carolina.
