DeShon Elliott will not need toe surgery.  Dunno how long he's out

The frist team safeties are currently Jason Hall and Dylan Haines

PJ Locke with the 2nd team.

Cuney was out there today taking snaps with the 2nd team OL

Ronnie Major working 3rd team OL (at LT)

Today's 1st team OL (left-to-right) - Williams, Vahe, Doyle, Perkins, Hutchins

Tim Cole & Hassan Ridgeway also at practice

LBs were Freeman, MJ, Jinkens

I was discussing this on another forum but I'm pretty sure Wilkerson just had a brain fart.

I'm pretty sure the 1st team OL is Williams, Vahe, Doyle, Perkins and Flowers. Wilkerson didn't list Flowers on the first or second team, so I think he just made a mistake. There's no reason to think there's anything wrong with Flowers either because Strong personally singled him out as an upperclassmen leading the young guys today at the press conference.

I'm surprised Williams is already working LT - that's heady stuff for a freshman! I like seeing Vahe penciled in at LG, too. I hope the youngsters are ready to protect Swoopes' blind side!

He can't be any worse than the tackles we had last year.

....

Could be.  But isnt Wickline supposed to change the line-up almost daily?

If so, then any grouping on any one day can't be too surprising.

Yeah, but Flowers would be somewhere in the 2nd team. I think it was just a mistake on Wilkerson's part.

Although Tim Cole is back, he has not been able to beat out MJ.

In the nickel package, for now its MJ and Jinkens.

Latest OL: Williams--Flowers--Doyle--Vahe--Perkins

Major lined up at 2nd team LT, with Nickelson and Hutchins alternating at RT

Charlie Strong: If Texas played today, 'it would be Tyrone' at QB

Tyrone-Swoopes-Texas-Bowl-Eligible.jpg

It seems Charlie Strong isn't going to struggle coming up with his 2014 quarterback's name any longer.

Though the competition between 2014 starter Tyrone Swoopes and redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard isn't over, Strong told reporters Saturday that if Texas's season opener against Notre Dame was today, "it would be Tyrone" getting the starting nod. Swoopes started 12 games a season ago for the Longhorns, throwing for 2,409 yards with a 13-to-11 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

But former four-star, top-100 recruit Heard has been in an open competition with Swoopes throughout spring camp, summer workouts and now the Longhorns' fall camp. Despite Heard's talent, however, the junior Swoopes' experience has by all accounts kept him astep ahead of Heard throughout the year.

If the Longhorns' starting job seems all but settled, though, it's safe to assume Heard will get his chance. Both offensive coordinator Shawn Watson and Strong have said both quarterbacks will see the field against the Irish on Sept. 5.

"They both are going to play," Strong said in July. "When we line up in South Bend, whoever is going to start, the other guy is going to play also."

That stance means that Strong's comments Saturday might not matter as much as they would at a program that wasn't prepared to play both quarterback candidates -- but they do mean that the identity of "whoever is going to start" isn't a mystery any longer. Barring a disastrous end to fall camp, that player is Swoopes. Now he just has to prove he deserves to start in Week 2, too.
