5 Thoughts Following The Loss to OU

I spoke with someone yesterday, who is an extremely reliable source, and they told me there was no doubt in their mind that Sam got a concussion Saturday. They said you could see he wasn't "himself".

Is Sam going through practice as usual this week?

I’m not to reliable but In Herman’s presser it was all system go. Got checked out again on Monday and everything g was fine. That’s what I got to of his presser. We gotta have him this week if he is healthy. No tellin what would have to shane with this o-line against another solid D-Line.

There isn't a QB on earth that can stay healthy behind this OL. Until this OL situation improves I'll stick with my statement that said this team cannot be a winner in most games with good teams no matter what other positions are recruited and signed. Having to throw 40 to 50 times a game won't cut it.

Or scramble 68 times in the 3 games Sam has played lol seen that stat somewhere. But he can’t help it. Am glad Herman is talkin to him about trying to stay in the pocket a second longer though, not just run as soon as he seems a different colored jersey

Early this week... day or two ago... Joel Klatt was on The Herd... talking about Ohio State.

Ohio State's OC is.... Kevin Wilson (got the name right)?...  who was OU's OC when OU played Urban Meyer's Florida team (with Tebow) that beat OU for the championship.

Klatt said (even mentioning that with Beck gone from last year) Ohio State's offense is run in (what Klatt called) layers.

He went on and on about how the offensive scheme is designed for routes, open receivers, done depending on the pre-snap situation. And practiced to the point the team knows what to do as they line up because of what he termed "layers" as opposed to more simple 'scheme' concepts. The idea is that the QB and offense line up and can see which layer to go to... and the options within that layer.

As I take it... they now know the layer to work from and the QB can check down on the pre-snap read to get it just right. But all the players know where they are within that layer. Next series or down-and-distance, they may shift to another layer.

If my comments here sound odd or like I have no idea what I'm talking about, that would be true. Maybe all offensive schemes are in layers. But Klatt is of the opinion Ohio State has the best offense going and attributed it to a former OU OC.

Watching Texas Gameday and Quandre Diggs just confirmed this. Basically, the team relies a lot on cover 4 and that lack communication, which can be fixed he says, is the issue
