5 Quick Thoughts: Texas vs. Missouri

Great write up, Harrison.

My thoughts . . .

1. OL played okay tonight. Kerstetter had some issues at times. Pass protection was hit and miss. But run blocking was surprisingly good at times.

2. Don't be embarrassed to say our punter was our most effective offensive weapon. He was money from start to finish, probably a big reason why we won.

3. After watching Johnson and Wheeler tonight, I'm not so worried about next year's LB play.

4. Locke played well, whole secondary played pretty well.

5. Colin Johnson and John Burt, Reggie Hemphill-Mapps could be a lethal combination. Maybe the OL will allow that next year.

6. Buechele gets hurt again. Not encouraging. He played pretty well to that point though.

7. Poona Ford, I love ya man.

8. Runningbacks looked good. Even 21.

9. I didn't care for Herman's retaliatory gesture, mocking Mizzou's QB. I thought it was classless when Lock did it. It was classless when Herman did it. He's a 40-yr old man . . or something.

10. This win was critical and Herman knew it. This team was ready. The momentum carried forward will be a big difference maker. Screw the excuse about Heupel not being there – we had two AA's not playing.

10. Aaron Carrara deserves a steak dinner for predicting the win. No guts, no glory fellas.
After a three days of inventory I finally have time to post my thoughts. I chose yours, SHA, since ten points are more fun to debate than five. Sorry Harrison.

1, The OL played okay at times. They got it right on the drive that chewed up the clock in the 4th qtr. Hopefully they understand how they did that so they can build on that going forward, although I think a change in playcalling may have been the actual impetus for the success of that drive.

2. Dickson is the best punter I have seen in my life. Guy and Erxleben were great but their success was predicated on distance and hang time, but they were never able to bullseye a certain spot on the field whether it was at 50 yards distance or 30.

3. Johnson and Wheeler will be fine next year. The Shark and Adeoye should be adequate backups. I noticed that Orlando had the defensive front lining up in a 3-2 for most of the second half. Maybe that's part of the plan considering all the DB's they recruited this year.

4. Locke did play well. Looks like safety is where he will flourish.

5. I think the WR's weren't used or subbed correctly this year. There's a reason defenses started dropping six or more in an umbrella coverage this year.

6. I wanted Buechele to be the starting QB for every game that he was healthy, but as you said he seems to be injury prone. It also seems that when he gets hit or hurried his accuracy and decision making declines. I saw him double clutch on a couple of wide open receivers in the bowl game and had witnessed it as well during the season. As much as I liked him in Gilbert's offense and wanted him to succeed this year, it has become obvious he just isn't the QB for this offense.

7. Without Poona eating up space and occupying the center and sometimes a guard as well, this defense isn't nearly as successful.

8. The RB's had a hard time when asked to run between the tackles. Porter is servicable at best when running the ball but is an asset in the passing game.

9. Herman's antics didn't bother me the way it should have. Should have waited until after the game? Yes, but Mizzou brought this on themselves with their cocky talk and demonstrations during the week leading up to the game.

10. This win was critical. All of the recruiting momentum would have been lost had Mizzou even just squeaked by. It would have just been a continuation of the close losses during the season.

So that's my take on the game. Been waiting since the game was over to post.

And Aaron,  B)  keep on pickin' the good guys.

When I wrote that, I was not aware of all the Horns down stuff the previous night or in the pre game.

I'm okay with it.

I wasn't criticizing your opinion. How could I ever doubt someone who sprinkles this board with visions of Kate. ;)

But I do get the "we're better than that" argument.

Agree, reading that's texags thread was golden after they lost to mighty Wake Forest.  Classic bunch of aggy comments.  Love the guy who thinks the aggys get a pass for any possible bowl loss because they have an interim coach and that Jimbo will kick ass next season.  Nice reasoning, suck it...Deamon Deacons own you!
Darn, forgot that game was today (Fri).

Looked up the box score. Apparently nobody ran clock the entire game. Here's one summary of key stats.

Combined for both teams:

63 first downs

15 of 36 third down conversions

1,260 total net yards

899 passing yards

74 completions of 112 pass attempts

79 rushing attempts

107 points

I'm not sure a flag football game would generate that much offense.

As of my posting (1:03 am Sat)... so far... in bowl games:

Pac 12  ---  1 - 7

SEC  -----  0 - 3   meat of their games are next 3 days

Big 10 ---  5 - 0

Big 12 ---  4 - 2

ACC  ----  4 - 3

If this hasn't already been posted... worth a read. Might never see stats like this again in our lifetime.

I would take the man in the first round. Think what Justin Tucker has meant to the Ravens. Think of what Dickson could mean. Like to see the Cowboys take him in the 1st round. Or second. If Philly or LA Rams get him, Cowboys will regret it for years to come.

Bowl season has just given us the Michael Jordan Shrugs Game of punting

Maybe I missed it but the writer didn't mention he won the Ray Guy award. Wow, some writing.

Thanks, that was great. I wonder what they are saying about the mighty sec now that they are 0-3. The poster, thebro does a great job of throwing facts at them they just can’t handle
Well this answer from a full bown ag moron says it all:

mizzou is the least SEC-like team of all the teams in the SECthey still look and play like a big12 team, so they couldn't overwhelm tu in the trenches which is what a lot of other SEC teams would have done to them
But of course, only TRUE BLOOD deserving $EC teams dominate the line of scrimmage during a 55 point loss to...............Wake Forest.

Whew, glad he cleared that up.

Sort of like their former 5 star DL, Daylon Mack?  Remember that guy?

Compare Poona Ford's stats to his and tell me all about how great SEC trench play is.  OK Ill spoil it Poona has more than twice the tackles and almost twice the TFL's as the former 5 star does.   Math and logic are not a prerequisite obviously.

It's because of the awesome $EC OLs, silly  ;)

Mizzou has played in 2 SEC championship games.

Aggy has played in 0 SEC championship games.

I'd say Mizzou is far more SEC than Aggy is. They've been to the top. Aggy considers third place in a division a huge success.

Going into New Year's Eve and New Year's Day... Bowl records by Conference

Big 10
7-0

Big 12
5-2

ACC
4-5

sec
1-3

Pac 12
1-7

Interesting how sec's rankings at the end of the season were dependent on them basically playing each other.

Big 10 and Big 12 are combined 12-2 and have 1 team in the playoffs.

ACC and sec are combined 5-8 and have 3 teams in the playoffs.

I kinda of hope Blow U blows them all out of the park.
Edit: 2:54 am 1/1/18 -- cancel that last line!!  My head is out of the sand.
