2026 Recruiting Board/Thread

Not to disparage the two young men, but I'm guessing these are high character takes?

Not necessarily. The RB is 6'2 215, will play at around 220-225. Both our RB takes are big backs. IMO, intentionally so.

Should we be getting excited about flipping some 3 star players ?

I know this is worn out, but we've had quite a few 3-stars come here and blossom into stars. I don't think I have to name them.

True. But we're closing with bushel of 3's. Sherer is only 285 a lil light in the britches for a coach that wants " big humans".

5-star OL from N Crowley (Texas commit) is the same size.

Trust the coaches I guess. But man we're battling with Cal, Houston, Minnesota. Etc...Why arent powerhouse schools after them...

Lack of exposure? How many schools went after Colt McCoy besides Texas?

From Gerry (paraphrased) regarding the OVs from the weekend:

1. Jett Walker (3-star) – in the bag.
2. Brysten Martinez OT (4-star, LSU) – loves Texas and wanted to set up his OV before leaving town, but wants to see who LSU replaces with at HC.
3. Kaden Shearer (3-star, Stanford) – staff optimism has increased since his visit.
4. Richard Anderson (5-star, LSU) – Texas is cautiously optimistic. Will likely wait until LSU fills HC vacancy.
5. Rocky Cummings (3-star, Cal) – Texas' odds went up when Wilcox was fired at Cal.
6. Josiah Vilmael (3-star) – OV to Cal has been canceled due to Wilcox firing. Will OV to Kansas State this weekend. Texas is the favorite.

I was wondering how USC could offer 38 schollies this year and realized the 105 limit has started.
Has anybody seen this?

Current and former student-athletes with remaining eligibility are exempt from the new roster limits, meaning they do not count against the 105-player cap at their current school.

This was discussed on OnTexas Football recently. In short, recruiting at places like Texas will now be very top-heavy. It has to do with NIL money. The key is to go all out for around 10-12 players, and then use good talent analysis to fill out the class with high potential 3 stars - content to develop. The later group will not bust the NIL budget.

Exactly. The difference in price from the 100 ranked prospect to the 300th is wild to me.

And the difference in being a good player at a Group of 5 school vs a 3rd stringer at a big program is also wild to me. Someone told me Caldwell is making 10x the money at Texas to compete at 2nd string than he was at Troy as a multi year starter.

I understand the summary you posted as I general industry practice. Thank you. My question for the board and perhaps you have insight, is this what Ohio State and Texas Tech doing or they going in on more players? Thanks in advance.

Yes and no, you look at Tech's class, they have about 5 top 150 caliber players and no one ranked 150-400. There is a big drop off. They will use the portal to sign an additional 10 or so guys they think will come in and immediately play year one.

Ohio State isn't as bad since they don't have to pay the premium Tech does to get players to go there. But the concept remains the same. Plus they don't use the portal as much so a lot of their budget will go to those 150-400 ranked prospects and develop them. We are pretty similar to them.

I believe teams like Miami and TT went all in on multiple people this year because this new rule was not in place. Teams will all be playing from the same sheet of music (if everyone plays true).
