2026 PORTAL

Here's my snow-day sunshine: IF.... IF we can dig up a left guard from the portal - who is a legit P4 starting offensive lineman.... Then I would suggest I am satisfied that our OL will be good. Significantly better than last year:

RT - Sinai
RG - Said Portal Lineman
C - Robertson
LG - Baker
LT - Goosby

DEPTH: Coleman X 2, Chatman, Cujoe, Sikorski

The biggest issue at this point is who snaps the ball if Robertson misses a week.

Ketchum believes more players will come in. Perhaps one is trying to graduate first. Whether or not they fit the template "legit P4 starting offensive lineman" we shall see.

At this point I'm hoping that Jordan Coleman steps up and surprises us all and takes the spot for the next 3 years.
Ketchum is hinting around that there is someone in the portal, coming to Texas.... but there are issues with transcripts. He would lose hours if he came to Texas - so he's going to graduate first then come in as soon as the Spring semester ends.

No indication if he would be a sure-fire starter, compete for the LG spot, or added depth.

Rutgers sports is in the red by $78M. The new sports environment is already strangling some programs.

It will be one of Cojoe, Coleman and Chatman, for sure.
I saw a projection with Sikorski as the starting LG. Below is from Surly:

Were Sark and Flood completely dug in on redshirting the Coleman twins and Christian OR were they worse than Brooks in practice? If it’s the latter, we’re in some serious trouble and the Oregon State kid might start.

Here is one way to analyze portal success. Take projected 2 deep portal losses, and compare them with portal additions... then gage whether or not you would agree to the player swap in a trade. Here are some interesting position analysis:

WR
Losses: Moore & Livingstone
Gains: Coleman
Yes -- Personally, I would do this trade. This is the easiest call IMO.

RB
Losses: Wisner & Baxter
Gains: Smothers & Brown
Yes -- I would do this trade... but I hate losing Wisner. I have a higher view if Wisner than most do. That said, I would make this trade.

OL
Losses: Brooks, Cruz, Stroh, Kibble (maybe on 2 deep)
Gains: Siani, Sikorski, Newman
Yes -- Newman and Brooks are a push. Cruz, Stroh and Kibble for Siani and Sikorski.... This is very close. I think the addition of Siani, and the ability to move Baker to guard probably makes me say "yes" to this trade.

LB
Losses: Lefau & Barnes
Gains: Biles, Cryer, Boswell
A hesitant Yes -- To me, this is every bit as close as Offensive Line. I'll take Biles over Lefau (both are really good), but I'll take Barnes over Cryer and Boswell (I love the potential of Barnes). In the interest of being a sunshine pumper.... I'll say yes.

Edit Notes: This is not saying "all is well" on the offensive line. I understand that even Sark said OL was a priority. Based on last year's performance most thought we needed a portal overhaul. That hasn't and it looks like won't happen. The point is, I believe we slightly improved via the portal. Furthermore, depth on the OL is scary thin after the exodus in the portal and graduation.

Linebacker will likely add Spencer as well. It looks like he will move back from edge to linebacker.

It seems like all of the programs are currently spending big on rosters and coaching staffs to stay relevant. You would think that schools would need to mostly balance their budgets, so something needs to give... eventually. Schools that can't keep up with the arms race will not be able to attract, or retain top athletes or coaches.

Love it. Best available. Even if he isn't great, he is serviceable to keep Arch upright!

This is a depth pick up. He is not elite. That is why he was still available after several weeks since the portal opened.

I honestly do not think he's an upgrade from 2-3 players we already have for that spot. One of them may start over this new guy.

The only thing that makes me feel better about him is that Miami once thought he was good.

But if it stops the ongoing tantrum I see at other sites, then it's a great pick up. lol

Experience is experience, and its what we need right now. Ill take the glass-half-full view, for now lol.
