2025 Texas Longhorns Fall Camp

A couple of comments from Burton . . .

"Everywhere you look on the practice field, it feels like there’s a player who is almost assuredly going to be playing pro football one day.
If there are three players gathered together, at least one is a future NFL pick and, odds are, two will be."

"From top to bottom, this is the most talented freshman class I’ve ever seen at Texas."

Sounds like there is unfortunately no more battle at RT. Cojoe appears to have torn his ACL. Brandon Baker time to step up!

Yeah he's out for tthe season. Nick Brooks and Jaydon Chatman are now the deptth at RT

What about Steph? Is he inside!

Nvm, I see he is an IOL. Surely one or two of the IOL have cross-trained at OT for emergencies, right? Kibble, Stroh, Robertson, Merrill?

Those are inside guys. I am hoping we never have to play Merrill.

Jardon Chatman, Nick Brooks, Jordan Coleman are three off the top of my head.

From Burton

– Cojoe was injured Saturday and was wearing a knee brace at the time of the injury. Thats kinda rare.

– Buy all the stock you can in DE Zina Umeozulu. He's earning himself some PT, looks great and playing really well right now.

I don't know how to feel about our interior DL. I keep being told there will be a heavy rotation and they will sub in and out often like hockey players. But to me that also means their isn't someone dominant enough to play most of the game.

Thats not true. WIth DL, you have big heavy bodies battling hard, often times when it's very hot. You must have people to rotate in to mitigate that.

The two best DL we have rare Maraad Watson and January and they will play the lion's share of snaps.

DT is a position of strength for this team.

How confident are we in Brooks or Chatman?

Chatman has experience in Sark's system. He played some last year and I seldom hearr anything but good things about him. In the past, there was just better OL in front of him and thats nothing to hold against him because he was young then.

I know almost every day of practice and spring trraining, I have heard something awesome about Brooks. He showed up ready for football and almost immediately raised eyebrows on the practice field.

Baker is going to do fine, but like DL, we'll have to have a rotation there.

Some notes from Burton, paraphrased.

– Watson and January are the likely starters at DL. Watson is very athletic, draws comparisons to Sweat.

– Jonah Williams and Kade Phillips are healthy again after missing some time with a hamstring issue.

– CJ Baxter continues to look good. Says he has no hesitancy from the injury.

– The gap between McCutcheon and the rest of the frosh WRs has closed. French, Lockett and also Michael Terry have shown dramatic improvement.

– Littleton and Filasame have drawn a lot of praise recently.

– Derrick Williams looks great. Injury is behind him.

Think of it this way, Tvondre Sweat played something like 35 snaps per game his final year (numbers vary a bit based on source). So even the best of the best DTs will play less than 50% of snaps in a game.
