2023 Recruiting Board/Thread

I was visiting with a friend last week who was at Arch Manning’s game against Benton. This guy is NOT one of us, he’s actually from that other school in Texas. The one without cheerleaders. This is not his exact words but pretty close.

“Anyone who sees him play and doesn’t think he’s one the best HS QB’s ever is not being honest. Their team was worse at every position except for QB and he single handily won the game. He couldn’t just throw a perfect pass he had to throw it in a way his receivers couldn’t miss it and they dropped plenty of really good ones. Put him on a decent Texas HS team with a few good skill kids and they would run the table. He looked like a grown man playing with little kids. Whatever he wanted to do he could it. He could probably start for 90% of power 5 teams right now. It’s like watching LeBron in HS he’s just a whole different kind of player.”

I asked him if he was a 5* because of his last name and he laughed. “He will be the best Manning QB when it’s all said and done.”

Not at all, thankfully.

IT expects him at a home game in November.
According to IT we are only taking kids who are are ALL IN!! A kid who is committed to the enemy isnt someone who is all in, IMO. Are we making an exception? Not trying to stir the pot but it seems hypocritical.

Colton’s dad played at Texas. Colton never committed to us.  If he wants to come back that’s ok by me. We’ll never know the circumstances of the other guy decommitting. Did he burn bridges?  You don’t know.

You see heres the thing if you wont let a potential 5*come back in the class then why would you even enterain bringing in a kid who is committed to another school.
Who is the potential 5-star that won't be let back in? Unless you are talking about the kid who de-committed on a game day. If so, that may be viewed a bit differently. Kind of like finding a prettier date and breaking up with your current one (Colton) and kissing another girl while still committed to your current date (Game day decommitter). Sorry for the crude analogy, too much time in soonerville.lol

No, its not the same thing.

One is married.

The other is still single, trying to find himself.

Big difference!!!!!!

I dont care if the stadium is named after his daddy. Its even worse that he choose our nemesis over us, you want another Kobie McKenzie on your hands?

Neither has signed anything so neither one is married. At best, Colton has a promise ring. If that is even a thing any more.

There are zero exceptions for this staff when it comes to recruiting.

If the coaches want a certain player they don’t care who or if they are verbally committed they will take their commitment to Texas.
If they don’t want them, call it culture or whatever, they won’t take them.

They didn’t think twice about signing a  Texas kid from the transfer portal who decommitted from us, signed with an out of State program and then decided he wanted to leave.

Some people are acting like these recruiting decisions way more complicated than they really are.

Adults as well as teenagers are motivated by a variety of things.   Sometimes their decisions only make sense to them.  I want recruits that are motivated to put on that singular longhorn uniform to be a part of the Burnt Orange Nation.  Yep, BON as in BON Fire.  Give me lower star recruits that are on fire and passionate for UT.  Those that bleed Burnt Orange rather than 5 stars that are only committed to where they can get the most money.  I want the 5 stars as long as they truly want to be a longhorn and they are in a relentlessly pursuit to be a champion.

If we were seeing any red flags with Vasek, then I would entertain the idea that he's possibly not the best fit for what Sark is trying to build.

But he's a badass on the field, he's handled his recruitment with class (despite committing to OU), no grade issues I'm aware of and he comes from a Longhorn family.

If he calls the office and says he's decided to flip to Texas, I'd ask him what jersey number he wants.

I have to agree here.  I was back and forth between A&M and UT when selecting colleges (I hate to admit that).  After going to UT I never miss a UT game and bleed burnt orange.  Can't imagine wearing maroon or having gone there.  Vasek in particular wanted to get out of Austin originally.  I also wanted to get away from the spot I grew up in for sense of freedom and change of scenery.  If he likes what he sees from the horns enough to keep him here and decides that he can still have the freedom he wants it doesn't matter who he chose previously.  Loyalty and buy-in is built over time.  What you don't want is someone who really wants to be at another school and has his heart somewhere else, but commits to you for the money (good luck to A&M on this front).  I don't think that is the case for Vasek.
