2023 Recruiting Board/Thread

Is anyone becoming alarmed at the slow pace of recruiting? Last year at this time we had Guilbeau, Murray and Blue committed. Is this year's slow process a result of things going back to normal after the pandemic or is it a result of the poor season? Or is this a design of the coaching staff?

I think that "pace" is an illusion when it comes to recruiting. Having 15 commits at this point vs 0 doesn't particularly matter as long as you have the 25 guys you want come February. Some teams push for early commitments and create an illusion of being "off to a fast start", but if you then have a lot of decommits it's all for not.

Think of Texas "falling behind" last year with OLine recruiting. Like Sark said, we could take 5 guys right now, but we want to take the 5 right guys. They were never truly behind, but rather in a holding pattern for guys they really wanted to make decisions.

This year, Texas seems to be well positioned with key targets across the board. I think pandemic has slowed some of these guys a bit. A lot would have already taken a lot of visits that won't happen until this spring or summer. Also, it seems Texas is waiting for the Arch Manning domino to drop before they push for other major commits. They aren't going to take secondary options at skill positions until they can sell playing with Arch to the 5 star types. If we do get the Arch committment, look for things to start coming together rather quickly.

On the new rosterI count 67 on ships, if I remember corectly thereis 18 commitments who did not enroll. Total of 85

There might be some more transfers but I fail to see the big class some were predicting.

Big news from IT...RB Rueben Owens has scheduled back-to-back weekend visits to Texas.

He'll be in town on March 26th (aka Arch Madness weekend) and again on April 2nd.

If you're keeping score, Texas will now have the #1 QB in the nation, along with #1 and #2 RBs in the nation on campus at the same time.

Can't say I've ever seen that, so needless to say there's some big momentum to be had if Sark can close.

10 early enrollees plus 18 commitments plus 4 transfes = a class of 32. Seems to be a pretty big class to me.
