2023 Portal Recruiting (CLOSED)

IT had a portal write-up yesterday and had this to say about Texas' WR needs.

Wide Receiver

Texas has talent but not much experience to go with the looming question of Isaiah Neyor’s health. The position is clearly important to helping make Sark’s preferred offense go, meaning he can’t leave anything to chance.

There’s a lot of talk Xavier Worthy might explore his options, specifically with USC. Even if you don’t have inside info, you should understand that’s a possibility given his flirtations last year, the fact he’s from California, USC’s quarterback situation, and the “cap space” they’ll have with Jordan Addison’s departure.

Needs: At least one, probably two

I understand Texas has been contacted by numerous players over the season so far. Should be interesting to see who we end up with.

Going to be really interesting to see what happens at WR.

After Worth and Whittington, the rest of the WR's have combined for 16 catches this year. And no one has more than 5.

there was statement on Twitter attributed to Sark where he said, he wasn't going to get involved with any current players if they choose the transfer portal but if they had one foot in the portal , they might as well put the other foot in too and move on....

So, I'm wondering, after reading what Bobby Burton said about the portal, is the portal opening going to become a new national signing day? Will it take away from P5 recruiting and make G5 schools more like a farm system?

I think last year some 37% of the players who entered the portal ended up with nothing.
That stat will probably encourage players to seek out a landing spot before they enter the portal. Rules about tampering need to be clear. If a player contacts another school before entering the portal, is that considered tampering?

He actually said this during an interview, I saw it on the LHN.
