Is it just me or is anyone else feeling conflicted right now? Are we more excited about them using scholarships on proven portal players or going the HS route?  I kind of feel more interested in the portal than I do for the early signing period on Dec 21.  Feels like Texas could fill multiple spots right now and just cherry pick from HS.  Such a weird time in college football.  I did not expect this many players in the portal.

They should move the HS early signing period up to Dec 1 so HS kids can secure their spots and teams have to make a calculated decision.  I could see a lot of HS kids getting screwed over because a portal player took the scholarship.

I personally disagree and prefer old school recruiting and development high quality local Texas High School Football players, who over time we should be developing into great players, rather than settling for some random dude from the transfer portal just simply because that player has “experience”.
 

my point is Just because a young player on our roster hasn’t had “experience” yet doesn’t mean he won’t step up and perform after another offseason in our system and playbook and have a breakout year

Not worth pissing off and disrespecting the players you recruited on our current roster, along with pissing off Texas High School Football Coaches, by bringing in mercenaries from the transfer portal and taking valuable reps away from your loyal players who chose to stay and chose to not transfer

I see us using the portal as a buffer while waiting for our recruits to mature.

There will be a few players in the portal every year that could help but the majority of the power 5 guys are in the portal looking for more playing opportunities. I would rather not fill my team with other peoples left overs. 

I think when your building a program and are trying to instill a culture you are better off focusing on HS recruiting IF your coaches are capable of developing athletes.  

I look at someone like Herman and I could see him being more successful relying on the portal. He’s a good recruiter but a terrible developer.
If he just rents a player for a year they probably won’t have time to realize he’s full of ?

How many is that for them so far?

I'm not real familiar with their roster so if they, like us, just have folks who can't break into the line up then its really not such a bad thing. But when this guy and Sanders leave, something may be sour behind the scenes.

Maye is also coming out from NC. He’ll go to the top. 
 Mack becomes a stepping stone unless Michael Jordan or someone becomes a BMD.
