2023-24 Transfer Portal Thread (PORTAL CLOSED)

Curious if the return of David Gbenda makes the staff move on from Kendrick Blackshire? CJ Vogel has been pointing out that the two are very similar players overall. Would be good depth at the position but not add anything new.
Good question. Bobby Burton & crew were saying that Blackshire & Gbenda have very similar games (strengths & weaknesses).

I think he will replace Watts on the short side of the field… perhaps better suited for this?

He’s has been a good corner for us… with a ceiling to get better. We are fortunate to have him.
Just a few questions then. Our defensive backfield was our absolute worse group by far no arguing. Any game that was a loss or ended up closer than should’ve been was due to our bad coverage. Do you blame our coverage schemes or personnel? It’s been said that PK doesn’t call the coverages. If true, then Sark is an idiot for allowing that. You have to call things that work together. They’ve used soft coverage all year because they knew man coverage and ball skills were the weak spots in the defensive backfield. We just got picked apart because this. CB is extremely hard to play. When a freshman is your best, that’s kinda sad. I made statements all year about 8 and 16 blowing coverage. Go back and watch the games. Texas won inspite of those deficiencies.

Do you think our secondary will be improved next year? I do. I think it’ll be due to addition by subtraction. The safety from Clemson will be better than Taafe or Catalon. Williams will be a good safety. Muhammad will be in year 2. I believe Brooks will be the weakest link next year.

There are multiple solutions to your questions.
First - Michigan got a lot more pressure on Penix than we did. Our secondary was not good, but they didn’t get a lot of help from pass rush. We should be better there next year.
Second - the secondary didn’t have the personnel that was needed. Thats why we had so many of them hit the portal. (With a nudge). They will have a more talented experienced group next year.
Third - the rules are set up to allow scoring. Teams are going to score in today’s game, especially with the pass.
We have to outscore them.
And that’s where an offensive minded coach is valuable in today’s game. You have to be able to score
