No... the hope is that Sark is another Dabo (or any other coach in the history of the football that eventually figured how to be successful). The actual list of coaches who struggled early in their HC career to find later success is rather extensive.
So 8 years of past results from a .500 head coach is meaningless?  Regardless he is going to get at least 2 more years to turn this around.  Past results do not favor him succeeding regardless of hope or wishful thinking.

It's not about optimists or pessimists. The realists know that rebuilding a program normally takes a while, and bellyaching over early struggles is nothing but sound and fury signifying nothing.
Ah yes and we have been here for 11 years.  I hope he does turn it around but my gut feeling this is going to be a bust again.  Why?  Past result and historical patterns cant be ignored but he was hired because of what he did at Bama with Bama talent.  We all know it.  I hope he succeeds but after tirelessly defending him I am being more skeptical of the excuses.  Next up 9 months kool-aid and we get to start all over again...hopefully with a better result.

I think it's disingenuous to throw around his coaching record without considering the context. He literally rebuilt the Washington program from nothing after winning 12 total games the prior 5 seasons including going winless the year before Sark took over. Going 34-29 in his 5 years there was no small feat and is actually evidence that he has what it takes to turn a down program around.

He went on to go 9-4 at USC before the wheels fell off in his personal life in 2015. By all accounts, his personal struggles at USC seem to have made him a better person and coach.

Does the Sark hire come with the same previous results as Riley to USC or Kelly to LSU, no, but it is not unreasonable to be hopeful that he can get the job done.

Certainly plenty of reason for skepticism. It is also not out of the realm of possibility that Sark's once promising career that was sidetracked by alcoholism can be restarted after his stint with Saban. He is by no means free of warts but there is enough there for me to at least hope or wishfully think he is the boy genius who has matured and will do great things here.

It is also true that he could be exactly what Denny says:

Good points on Washington.  Time will tell and we all have hopes.  People should not mistake skepticism for hope of failure.  Hiring the hot Coordinators turned into 1 year wonders hasnt exactly worked out for us

If by chicken little you mean a realist, than chicken little I be.  Alabama had Saban, Clemson had Dabo.  As I have stated numerous times on this site Sark is barely above .500 as a head coach for his 8 year tenure.  Can it be turned around?  Of course. Is Sark another Saban or Dabo?  I would say don’t count your chickens before they are hatched.  If your record is who it says you are than we might have to wait for the next hire to see if the power brokers at Texas can finally eat it right.
Dabo hadn’t even been a coordinator when he got the Clemson job.  When Texas hired Darrell Royal he had a career record of 17-13. Two 6-4 seasons at Miss St and 5-5 at Washington. His first season at Texas was 6-4-1. You would have fired him.

DKR inheirert a team that was 1-9. a 5 win improvement Sark went the other way.

Next year will tell.

Using your logic about me firing DKR is absurd.  The point is this, a team should improve as each week goes by.  We regressed even though in most cases we had more talent on the field than our opponents.

You missed the whole point.  I’m am saying that Sark said from his own mouth you are what your record says you are.  Using his words he is a .500 coach in 8 years.

It’s fine to have faith the he will turn that around but I am judging things according to his record.

When you apply for a job your history is one of the most important factors.  His history is just not stellar or elite.  That does not mean that he can’t be but as of this moment he is not.

Can we both agree that 5-7 with a loss to Kansas proves we have not arrived?  I can’t think of a worse start for a coach that you have so much faith in.

Expand your mind on this.

Regressed at various points. Yes. However, this ended with a short-handed team with an injured QB and with nothing to gain and every reason to succumb to a team that was battling for a better bowl berth and was fully operational, save for their QB.

Many of our losses were by a touchdown or less. It's easy to see how this team could have been 9-3.

I'm not trying to sell bad goods, I'm suggesting a more balanced approach.

We hated this season, I'm with ya. But I have optimism that things are going to be different sooner rather than later.

Being mad every day doesn't make sense to me. Seeing the one side (bad or good) simply doesn't help one's self. I am way to aware of the shortcomings I saw on the field this season. These coaches are too good to not field a vastly improved product on the field next season. I look forward to seeing it all unfold.

You’re message is well taken.  My optimism for this football program has been beaten to shreds.  It seems we are on this board year in and year out discussing the same old things that have gone wrong over the past 16 years.  It’s like Groundhog Day over and over.  So sorry, I just don’t have optimism that any of this will change because I have little confidence in Sarkesian and his staff.  That’s is the honest truth.  I hope they can show me how wrong I am for feeling this way. I long for the day when all of us can be excited and feel the Longhorn pride for being a contender again.

Perhaps they know more than you at this point and you'll know soon enough if you have a little patience. Grown men calling high school seniors dumb for hyping up their recruiting class is a bad look.

Not really.  It has been mentioned by very respected mods on several sites all they have been doing is trying to build fake hype. There were no big commits after all that BS the other night.   Again it looks dumb.
