Does Willie Tyler's commitment influence the prospective 2020 OL class? I just hope no one there is scared away by the growing OL numbers. I'd love to snag Lindburg and George.

Braun shouldn't have any effect of him. He leaves after next year.

IMO, Hudson is done playing football.

Okafor is gone after next year.

Shackleford is gone after next year.

Urquidez will may never see the field.

There will probably be a defection or two down the line.

There's plenty of room, IMO.

And room for at least 5 in 2021.

Big visit on deck this weekend for Texas with four star WR Troy Omeire. A&M is viewed as the favorite and Texas has a chance to grab some momentum with a good visit.

Maybe I'm missing something but seeing highlights and some ham-handed clips from the camps and then hearing he ran a 4.79 or something, TO looks like a TE to me.

Good points, although Okafor redshirted last year so he's still got 2 seasons left.

Also, it kills me to think Hudson may be done with football. In that 2016 class, the 3 guys who really excited me were Hudson, Erick Fowler, and Jordan Elliott

When we got Urquidez and Hudson from Baylor we thought we'd pulled off a pretty good pick pocket. Things sure turned out differently. Feel bad for both of them.

I feel badly for them both, as well. I just don’t think Hudson’s body was meant for the rigors of football past the h/s level.

He is fortunate he was in Austin where he could receive top flight medical care quickly.

I was never high on Urquidez personally and so far he’s turned out right as I pegged him. Hudson on the other hand is disappointing because it felt like he was on his way to contributing.

why did Willie Tyler go Juco right out of high school?....seems strange.
From what I’ve read he played defensive line in high school and balked at switching to the offensive line going into college.

By my count that's 5 project OTs in the last 2 classes (Moore, Jones, Shepherd, Hookfin, Tyler).  Will be interesting to see how many of those guys are still around in a year.  They aren't all going to pan out.

7. Hudson Card — Lake Travis (Austin, Texas)
Known for producing big-time quarterbacks, the Cavaliers' 2020 Texas commit proved he belongs in the upper echelon after a monster junior season. Card threw for more than 3,500 yards and tossed 50 touchdowns against four interceptions. He also ran for nearly 700 yards and nine touchdowns.

2020 commits ready to restore trench dominance at Texas

There has been something missing from Texas football for the past ten years, and it’s not victories and trophies but a dominant offensive line.

As the football program floundered in mediocrity, the days of tough-nosed offensive linemen such as Justin Blalock and Jonathan Scott disappeared. Between 2009 and 2017, Texas had zero taken in the NFL draft altogether.

Yet, as Tom Herman wrapped up his 2019 recruiting class with his second consecutive top-three ranking, the third-year head coach already began working on the 2020 class that is shaping up to be bigger and better than the stellar 2019 class.

Less than a few weeks away from National Signing Day, when Herman announced the addition of four-star offensive lineman Javonne Shepherd, Texas received five commitments for the 2020 class. Of those five include Jake Majors, Logan Parr and Jaylen Garth, three offensive linemen who will have a huge say in the future of Texas football.

Standing between 6-foot-3-inches and 6-foot-6-inches and weighing roughly between 280 and 290 pounds each, Majors, Parr and Garth seem like your typical linemen. Beyond the four-star ratings, the trio of commits are part of Herman’s makeover, both on the field and off it.

Among the three of them, Parr committed first in October 2018.

“I was always told that every place is going to have crazy facilities and they’re all going to be amazing, but it’s the people at the place that makes it worth your while,” Parr said.

Those “people” include Herb Hand, a second-year offensive line coach at Texas, who has made his presence known everywhere from the recruiting trail to the field.

“(Herb’s) been a great addition to our staff,” Herman said during his National Signing Day press conference. “He did a really nice job of developing the guys that were there. They were able to be much more cohesive.”

In 2017, Texas played eight different offensive line combinations. However, the following season, which was Hand’s first in Austin, there were only three different starting combinations.

“(Hand’s) a coach you can’t pass up on, especially with my desire to go on and play at the next level after college,” Majors said.

After committing in January, Majors cited his relationship with Hand and Parr as instrumental in his decision to commit early.

“(Logan) has the same determination, desires I have and wants to make Texas great again,” Majors said.

But that determination goes beyond just the gridiron.

“We’d love to bring a lot of players from Texas,” Parr said. “We’re working on a couple offensive lineman — we all have a Twitter group chat together — that’d we love to play with at the next level. It’s really cool being able to commit early and being able to shape our recruiting class.”

Included in that group chat is Garth and other 2020 recruits such as Chad Lindberg and Damieon George. One week after speaking with Parr, Garth announced his commitment to Texas as well.

When it’s all said and done, Texas might end up with all three committed, but it’s evident a dominant offensive line could be in the future for Texas behind Majors, Parr and Garth, among others.

“We want to bring back that trench dominance,” Majors said.

Parr added to Majors’ comment, saying, “It’s going to be crazy. Nothing will be able to stop us.”

Early predictions for 2019 college football season

The LSU-Texas winner will finish 11-1

The Tigers and Longhorns hook up on Sept. 7 in Austin, and it's a huge Playoff chip for both teams. LSU gets Florida, Auburn and Texas A&M at home this year and still would be in decent Playoff shape if they can't overcome the Alabama hurdle. Texas has a negotiable Big 12 road schedule around the annual date with the Sooners on Oct. 12. We will have more on the Longhorns in a bit

Texas will win the Big 12

Yep, we're coming right out with it. Tom Herman and the Longhorns will take the momentum from last year's 10-win season and Sugar Bowl victory against Georgia to win the Big 12 championship. The Longhorns already took the first step with an excxellent 2019 recruiting class. It might take a split with Oklahoma to get there, but Sam Ehlinger leads the Longhorns to the next step toward a Playoff race. They will have competition.

The Heisman finalists are …

Tagovailoa, Lawrence and Fields. Ehlinger, Hurts and Jake Fromm will be on the outside looking in.

Georgia’s future home-and-home series with Texas figures to be games that will be in high demand.

So how many tickets will the schools get as part of the contract signed for the games?

Georgia can purchase up to 5,000 tickets for the game at Darrell K Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin on Sept. 2, 2028 and Texas 5,000 tickets for its first ever game in Athens on Sept. 1, 2029. The schools will discuss a “potential adjustment,” to that ticket number by Sept. 1, 2026.

That information is in a game contract obtained from Georgia by the Athens Banner-Herald Monday in an open records request.

Georgia has not played at Texas since 1958. The Longhorns stadium has a capacity of 100,119.

The Texas contract was signed by Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity on Oct. 5 and by Texas officials on Oct. 25. The games were announced on Nov. 12 as well as Georgia games at Clemson on Sept. 15, 2029 and against Clemson in Athens on Aug. 31, 2030. As previously reported, the visiting school in the Georgia-Clemson series will be allocated up to 6,000 tickets for sale, which also could be increased.

The visiting team receives a $500,000 guarantee for the Georgia-Texas games.

It will cost $1 million for each cancelled game in the Georgia-Texas series and that increases to $2 million if the second game is cancelled after the first game is completed or if both games are cancelled.

Texas beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 in the fifth ever game between the programs
