How the battleground recruiting states were won in 2020

TEXAS (35 PROSPECTS IN TOP247)

Texas and Texas A&M were dominated at home not too long ago with 80 percent of the top 25 departing the Lone Star State in 2017. A few years later, Tom Herman and Jimbo Fisher have shifted the tenor of in-state recruiting.

Texas took the in-state crown back from the Aggies in 2020, inking six top 25 prospects. The Longhorns have a great chance to make it seven with five-star defensive end Alfred Collins heavily favored to land in Austin.

Texas A&M signed four players from the state’s Top 25, including the top defensive back (Jaylon Jones) and top receiver (Demond Demas). A&M also won adding four-star signal caller Haynes King and do-everything athlete Devon Achane. The Aggies aren't out of the Zachary Evans sweepstake either.

TCU had a really good year near the top of the rankings, grabbing top 70 prospect Quentin Johnston in a head-to-head battle with Texas. The Horned Frogs also added a high-ceiling offensive lineman prospect, Garrett Hayes, to a class that ranks 33rd nationally.

Still, national powers dipped into Texas for high-profile targets.

Alabama signed five-star linebacker Drew Sanders and top 50 running back Jase McClellan. Georgia added four-star corner Jalen Kimber and top 150 offensive tackle Chad Lindberg. LSU signed a pair of Top 25 prospects from Texas, which it always seems to do. Ohio State continued to raid the Lone Star State, nabbing five-star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. It’s the second straight year the Buckeyes have landed a five-star receiver from Texas.

Oklahoma continues to have a strong presence in Texas, signing running back Seth McGowan (No. 133 overall) and offensive guard Nate Anderson (No. 89) in a class that includes 12 Texans.

Not a fan of jerrah at all so if his grandson does come to Texas, I hope the kid is nothing like him!
I hope he doesn't start coming to UT games.

LOL! They still don't know where Zack is going.

UPDATED PREDICTIONS FOR THE NATION'S 10 BEST AVAILABLE RECRUIT

4-STAR DE ALFRED COLLINS (NO. 62 OVERALL

THE PICK: Texas

I feel really good about the Longhorns landing the Bastrop (Texas) Cedar Creek legacy after talking to several sources about the recruitment. The momentum has been picking up in favor of Texas since late December and seems strong now. Oklahoma would be considered the biggest challenger with Alabama rounding out the top three. Collins is tabbed as the nation’s No. 2 strong-side defensive end and No. 62 prospect overall.

5-STAR RB ZACHARY EVANS (NO. 16 OVERALL)

THE PICK: Won't end on National Signing Day

Having already signed one LOI to Georgia in December and then being released, Evans is not eligible to sign another one Wednesday per NCAA rules. Sounds like he won’t be ready to make any decisions anyway. A source tells 247Sports that the Houston (Texas) North Shore five-star is looking towards March visits once the dead period ends after February. He still has one official in play and if Florida is pushing, they seem to still be a school Evans wants to go check out. LSU and Texas A&M both received officials during the season. The Tigers have moved on from Evans while the Aggies still seem to be involved. Ole Miss and Tennessee received officials in January. I could see a spike in his recruitment again following spring football and depth charts changing with the transfer portal.
