I think most of us on here agreed Herman should get at least 3-4 years to turn the program around. I still think he should be given 2 more years. I have lost a lot of confidence in Herman and Orlando but I am hoping they can somehow turn this around.

i can't believe there is talk about replacing the coach already.  i'll state what i stated for strong.  herman needs to get his players at the leadership positions, i.e. upperclassman.  he needs 4 or 5 years.  too much coaching turnover is not good for the program.

yes, it sucks we lost game one.  yes, we should have hung 50 on tulsa.  this is the first year in 3 that we didn't have a true freshman qb starting.

Generally, good coaches do turn it around in 2-3 years max. If it takes until the 3rd year, you at least begin to see signs in the 2nd year. So far, there are no signs in the 2nd year that things are beginning to turn around. However, we ARE only 1/6 of the way through the 2nd season. So, yes, it could still happen this year.

Dude if del Conte has your vision and Texas fires Herman after two years Texas football will be in the dump even further. In all honesty, the problem right now with Texas is the older guys making stupid mistakes that seniors should not be making but they are Charlie's guys that did not pick Herman. With four years that gives Herman a chance to have all 4 recruiting classes be guys that really want to be there. We have to get out of this funk of giving up on coaches and give recruits a sense of consistency. Celebrate when we win and understand that it is a process. Not easy to overcome the horrible football we have seen for the last 8 years

And for the people that will say "charlie's guys are now Hermans guys", this is true but Orlando working with Hager on jet sweeps for 4 weeks and then he gets out there and can't do it. Something is wrong with the locker room, not the coaches.

CDC will not let Herman destroy is vision for future projects. Bad football will not fund those projects. Like I said the data is very clear we will know what we have with Herman soon. And so will CDC.

Guys, the class and legitimacy of this program starts with the students, alum, and the fan base. What I saw this weekend from the stands is disgusting, debris being thrown on the field. The fanbase calling for Herman's head after 2 games this season is another thing that is ridiculous; as fans we have to give it time and chill out. We have to remember these are young men who fight everyday and give it their all on the field, there are going to be growing pains. Improvement will come but Texas has had three coaches within the past decade. Turning and burning coaches will not build this program back up. Coaches have to have time to recruit for the systems they are installing, guys give it time, hiring a new coach will only create the same issues we have now.

What does that really mean? Was DKR playing 40 players per game? Or was he sticking with the same 22 to 25 players. I think I remember the latter.

What rules, outside of the 85 limit, are different today? There are no rules that I know that force a program to behave or play differently than they did when DKR was around.

I realize it sounded sexy, but there really wasn't substance to go with it. So I don't buy it.

Same football. Same 100 yard field. And everybody was playing by the same rules.

Bob Stoops won a national title in his second year. What was different then than now?

I’m trying to get this thread back on track and talking a little bit of recruiting. I just confirmed Texas extended an offer to Garden City CC OT Bamidele Olaseni. This kid is massive. Listed at 6’8, 330 pounds and actually moves around pretty well. I’m intrigued by the tape. Looks like he is originally from London and came over to play in the states.

He has good movement and seems pretty good picking up blocks in space and 2nd level blocks... cant speak much about his level of competition but i think he could be great.

The rules are the same today, 85 scholarships max.  Texas stockpiled 5 star talent that rarely played in Royal's prime that would have otherwise gone elsewhere if he had the same restrictions then as now.  Playing field wasn't nearly as level then as now.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all impressed with how Herman is doing so far, which makes me sick to type, but I'm hoping like hell he can get it turned around this weekend.

Scholarship limits started to gain momentum in 1961, and went into effect in September 1965. In he spring of 1965, it was A&M who had given the most scholarships to football players of any school for a number of years, not Texas.

If you go back and look at the records, most years DKR also had fewer players drafted into the NFL than A&M.

Let's stick to the facts.

Would be nice to get some monsters back in the trenches like Texas had in Mack's prime years.
