Thanks for the info. Like I said on another thread, these motivational tactics were detailed when we hired Herman. Think what you want about them but none of it should be a surprise to the kids or the parents. Get with the program or GTFO but don’t whine about it to hack reporters.

I hear what you are saying. But don't underestimate how much "influence" an opposing coach can have when using that type of ammunition on a 17-18 kid.

It wasn't the article that kept the kid from signing. It was a shrewd and ruthless coach that was gifted with "info" that he could use to negatively recruit against Texas. 

If you have read the actual article, as I have, it was a hatchet job plain and simple. And, hell no, there is no way Chip Brown did us a favor with either of the two articles he has written in the past week or so that undermined the Texas coaching staff and Herman. 

And Chip is standing by his story and saying that he didn't even tell everything he could have said. I obviously can't post premium content from another site but you can go over on the Shag and read the article in it's entirety and his asinine response to the backlash he is getting.

All of this reminds me of when Skip Bayless stated in a DMN article that Aikman was gay. He got run out of town for that one. Perhaps the same needs to be done with Chip.

Chip Brown is allegedly an alcoholic and allegedly has a gambling problem. The rumor circulating is that he published that article in part to pay off gambling debt to someone involved with another program. I'm not writing this to be funny.

I have to disagree there. If the extent of the article was that Herman was a tough coach, that's one thing. But the article also seemed to imply that Herman doesn't give a damn about his players. I can't really blame a 17-year-old kid for being dissuaded in signing with a team where the impression is that the coach doesn't care about them.
