2018 Recruiting Board/Thread

Well LSU beat Auburn when they were ranked and they have won their last 3.

Who have we beat?  KState and Iowa State are our best wins. We are 2-3 in the last 5.

We wouldnt even be discussing this if Texas had not GIVEN AWAY ALL THREE GAMES.

Cook acts he wants an excuse to commit to Texas and ONE signature win would be that.  We have none right now.

– Terrace Marshall: Have been told that star 2018 WR, Terrace Marshall (Bossier City, LA) will take a official visit to Texas next month (November). The tentative date is set for the Kansas game on November 11th but we are still working to get a final confirmation on that.

Speaking to folks close to Marshall, LSU maintains a lead. But LSU has been very up and down. Texas has done a great job of impressing recruits once they got on campus. So, while Texas certainly isn’t the favorite, as long as he visits (and we’ve confirmed he will) Texas has a shot. – (Super K)

– DaShaun White: Right now Texas has two linebackers committed in Eastern Hills (TX) Byron Hobbs and IMG Academy (FL) Ayodele Adeoye. They also have Arp (TX) DeMarvion Overshown committed. At 6’4 200 pounds, he can hold a lot more weight on his long frame and most see him as a perfect 3-4 OLB in Todd Orlando’s system. So if we count him then Texas has 3 LBs committed. They’d like to add one more either way.

A main target is Richland (TX) TAMU commit DaShaun White. He’s solid to TAMU right now but knows the possibility of this being HC Kevin Sumlin’s last season in College Station. The Aggies are 5-2 and it looks like there’s a better chance Sumlin stays than most initially thought. If he is retained, White is obviously more likely to stick with his initial commitment. But there are two schools White is still taking a hard look at, those two are Texas and Oklahoma.

One thing I always say when talking about White is that Texas could’ve locked him up in August had they offered after he worked out at their big July camp. His interest in Texas is a longstanding one. Instead he committed to Texas A&M over Oklahoma shortly after. Texas finally offered just over a week ago. Right now White has one official visit planned and that is to Oklahoma on October 28th. He told me he will 100% take official visits to Texas A&M and Texas, and they will be sometime after his official to OU.

Right now it’s hard to predict what is going to happen with White. As there are some big things that could play out and change this recruitment. The big news for Texas is that White is still very interested and plans to officially visit even though they offered him about three months late. Another note is that LB commit Byron Hobbs is good friends with White as both are from the Dallas area, and he’s already been recruiting White to Texas. – (Andrew)

– Team Note | Reggie Hemphill-Mapps: Received word from a source regarding the leg injury suffered by Texas WR, Reggie Hemphill-Mapps, in yesterday’s game versus Oklahoma. I am told that Hemphill-Mapps suffered a torn meniscus.

No word yet on when he might be expected to return. But I’d imagine if there is any chance for Foreman to see the field gain, now would be the time. If he doesn’t then I surmise we won’t ever see him. – (Super K)

– Joseph Ossai: As we first reported, 2018 DE/OLB, Joseph Ossai (Conroe, TX) made his way to Austin for the second visit of this season.

I spoke with someone close to Ossai and here is what I was told.

– Texas still maintains a slight lead over TAMU. Exact words were, “UT has pulled ahead overall by just a little. I’m not sure though how he feels about those slight margins of loss.”

– Was told that overall the visit was awesome but a “heartbreaking last play by the freshman though”.

– Am told that Ossai will likely take his official visit to TAMU this weekend.

– I am also told that if Ossai does indeed take his OV to TAMU this weekend then expect a commitment announcement to come approximately one week after that. Exact words were, “he will decide one week after next week’s official visit to A&M”. Meaning, we could find out word on where Ossai is headed by early November. – (Super K)

247 shows ou as "warm" and texas as "cool".  Is that old or the latest you know of?

Two CBs from Stampini and Elliot for Cook to Texas.

Adoeye is visiting BlowU this weekend.

Brainiacs say Ron Tatum may OV to Texas soon. Ha!

Starting to feel really good about Cook  :)

Do you know if Ronnie Perkins is visiting OU together with AA? I remember reading that they were supposed to go together.

– Nik Bonitto: Texas hosted 2018 LB, Nik Bonitto (Fort Lauderdale, FL) this past weekend and he came away impressed. “It was amazing. The environment overall was great and the staff just really welcomed me in. And I really got along with the commits that were there this weekend”.

Based on my conversations with sources on the Texas side it sounds like Bonitto is a guy they like and if they pushed for a commitment they could land him. In fact one source said that Bonitto made that clear to the staff.

But right now the staff seems to be content waiting and my guess is they’re waiting to see what Joseph Ossai decides. Both Bonitto and Ossai appear to be vying for the same spot. – (Super K)

– Colin Clay: Most of you know the main recruits that visited Texas over the weekend which included guys like QB Cam Rising, OT Badara Traore, WR Rondale Moore, DE Joseph Ossai, ’19 OT Tyler Johnson and  others. We plan to have updates on just about every single one of those guys soon. But there was an under-the-radar 2019 recruit that I really like, and he visited Texas over the weekend. He is Putnam City (OK) DE Collin Clay.

He holds early offers from Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Tulsa, SMU, and Arkansas State. Right now he’s 6’5 230 but I think he could grow into a really solid DE. When I talked to him about his visit he told me “It was really good! Loved the atmosphere and the coaches were really fun to interact with!” There was one certain part of the game that he thought was really cool, and he said “my favorite part about the game is when every time Texas had to kick off the guys on the sideline would bunch up and start getting hype! Jumping around in everything.”

He spoke with some of the coaches before the game, but told me that there has been no talk about a possible offer just yet. They’re still just evaluating Clay right now, but he’s a name to keep an eye on going forward. – (Andrew)

– Ronnie Perkins: Source close to Perkins tells me in no uncertain terms that despite the loss Perkins’ number one school is Texas. He will visit OU this weekend. We’ll see if that holds up.

– Rondale Moore: As most of you know, Trinity (KY) Texas WR commit Rondale Moore officially visited Texas over the weekend. He has been committed to Texas since late June, though most knew that his commitment wasn’t the strongest going into the weekend. The distance to home factor between his home in Louisville, Kentucky all the way to Texas has been weighing on his mind. The main school looking to flip him is Purdue.

If you read TFB you would know about the connection between Moore and Purdue. The Boilermakers HC Jeff Brohm went to Moore’s HS and was a superstar QB, so there are a lot of people around that program that love Brohm. That and the fact that Purdue is a lot closer to Louisville than Texas has been helping the Boilermakers out with Moore.

I talked to the source again today, as Moore says very little to the media. And they told me “Rondale said it was a really good visit, he loved the game atmosphere. Obviously the big thing they sold him on was making Texas feel like home.” I was told the Texas staff feels good about the job they did in that regard. Though Moore still plans to officially visit Purdue and probably Ohio State. I’m not sure he’s a take for the Buckeyes right now.

This is a rare recruitment that’s pretty black and white. Moore loves Texas, but if the distance to home factor is too much for him I expect Purdue to flip him. If it’s not too big of a factor, I expect him to sign with Texas. We will keep you guys updated on this one moving forward. – (Andrew)

– Cam Rising: Based on information from our sources that we had to keep strictly on the private donor board, there was some concern prior to the Texas visit that Ehlinger asserting himself as the definitive starter would cause guys like Rising to look elsewhere. We can’t comment much on it here but I will note that speaking to source after the visit, the Rising family came away feeling very much like it will be a fair and open competition in the spring once Rising gets on campus.

We will continue to watch this one. This is probably the one upside to the offense struggling. Long term, guys like Casey and Rising are critical to pushing Texas out of this close games and allowing them to start to dominate teams. It’s very obvious they are already there on the defensive side of the ball. – (Super K)
