2018 Recruiting Board/Thread

here's an article on it.

so the kid is waiting to see which teams are winning first before deciding....  doesn't sound like he really wants to be a Longhorn.  i like kids that bleed orange (sam ehlinger) and not play a wait and see.
I can understand why you feel that way.  I have in the past as well.  Once they get here 99 % percent build bonds with staff and players and bleed orange regardless.

It is a big decision for some of these kids so its understandable playing the wait and see game.

I hope we land him regardless.

I can see why you'd want to play for a winning school. Most elite players come from winning and that's all they know. But i agree it doesn't matter how bad your team is, if your good enough for NFL they'll find you.

– Anthony Cook: The big news coming out of the weekend is Hou. Lamar (TX) CB Anthony Cook coming off his Texas official visit. ICYMI, I reported on Friday after talking to someone close to Cook I was told Texas gained a lot of momentum. I can tell you that the momentum only increased following his Texas visit. He came in with his family and was the only recruit on campus and had the staff’s full attention.

Between breaking down film, going to hangout with the DB’s at Coach Washington’s house, the Texas staff rolled out the red carpet for him. The reason I won’t say Texas is the clear leader for Cook right now is because a lot of his decision on October 30th is going to come down to how Texas plays in the month of October. They host Kansas State this week before facing #3 Oklahoma and #15 Oklahoma State. Those three games are going to make a huge impact in this recruitment.

With Ohio State, I don’t really get the sense that they did anything to hurt themselves in Cook’s recruitment or if Texas has just done a lot to help themselves. I don’t know if the distance to home has become a major factor, but it kinda seems like Cook is looking for a way to pick Texas. Don’t forget LSU is a threat here too, but after losing to Troy over the weekend and the fact that Texas is surging. I’d call this a two-team racing as we enter October. Cook will take his final official visit to LSU on October 14th. – (Andrew)

– Chasen Hines: Some big news that hit last night, and it looked for awhile that some good news could be coming for Texas was with Marshall (TX) LSU DT/OG commit Chasen Hines. Texas offered Hines as a DT on Friday, who was committed to LSU as an offensive guard for a long time. But told me he’d rather play DT at the next level. Texas was selling him on being able to play both sides of the ball, or whichever one he wanted to play. With that in his mind, along with LSU losing to Troy, it looked like Hines was going to re-open his recruitment. Instead he tweeted this.

I am a little confused...........................and trust me you don't want Coyote's confused. :)))))

We are getting a lot of CB's for Chasen Hines to Texas. Reading his post, it appears that BeBe smoothed it over and he is committed to LSU.

So my confusion is do these CB's know something or is he committed to LSU? I know Herman has time to work his magic, but there are a lot of CB's popping up for him to Texas.

LSU has put a bandage on the bleeding for now. Hines has been listening to Texas for awhile. This is not over yet.

Reminder: Texas hosts Cali quarterback Tanner McKee this weekend for an official.
So would that make 3 QB commits for 2018? Rising, Thompson, and McKee if he commits? Is 5 on roster normal? Probably is but seems like a lot lol

Sorry I didn't realize that was him, I do remember you all saying that now. Thanks!

Daniel I was checking out your picks.  You have 2 picks for OT's one which is committed.  With our needs at OT its hard to believe we only have one in state verbal.

Do we have a realistic chance on any of these other guys?  What about Wire?

– Joseph Ossai: I have confirmed with a source close to Texas OLB/DE target, Joseph Ossai (Conroe, TX) that Ossai will take his official visit to Texas this upcoming weekend for the Kansas State game.

Ossai is essentially down to TAMU and Texas. TAMU feels confident but…I don’t know that they should. I continue to be told that while Ossai likes TAMU as a school, Texas is well within striking distance. This upcoming weekend will likely push this thing one way or the other.

Interestingly, while Ossai had long said he would wait till signing day to decide (early signing period or late), my source said, “that [date] could change with the fatigue of the recruiting process”. – (Super K)

– DaShaun White: Texas continues to look at some other LB’s even with guys like Ayodele Adeoye, Byron Hobbs, and DeMarvion Overshown* committed. It looks like they would like to take one more in 2018. One guy that I checked in with is Richland (TX) Texas A&M LB commit DaShaun White.

In late July he attended Texas’ premier summer camp in hopes to land an offer. He performed well and people around him expected an offer to come shortly after. That didn’t happen, and White committed to Texas A&M over Oklahoma. I will say that if that offer came from Texas he’d very likely be a Longhorn commit right now. I checked with him to see if he was still in communications with the Texas staff. He told me “Not much besides them keeping in touch. They sort of left the ball in my court and I haven’t made any efforts with them.”

That told me all I need to know. Oklahoma is fighting to flip White from TAMU, but he’s not really looking at Texas since they haven’t offered. Tom Herman and his staff haven’t made many evaluation mistakes IMO in the 2018 class, but not locking up White to finish off their LB class was a mistake IMO.

We’ll see what they do, and if they end up landing another LB. Just know it very likely won’t be DaShaun White. – (Andrew)

Is Junior Anguila the kid from Utah?  Haven't heard anything on that front in a long time.  Prior posts were positive regarding him coming to Austin...or at least committing to Texas.

I'll be happy if we get one of Cameron Wire or Junior Angilau.

Wow, imagine what this thread would be like if the Horns win their next 2 games.  Win on the field and recruits will be begging to be a part of something special.  Problem is, sometimes we can't get out of our own way.
