2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Charles O and/or Andrew F will have the chance to light it up in this defense

Can they/will they?

seems there were several new recruits that were going to come in right away and make a big difference that never played a down. ...Thats not a bad thing, but I began to wonder if we might have been "over sold" on how good they were.

Without fail, every class has recruits that are "over sold" on how good they are. Happens everywhere.

Beck saw four-star 2018 QB Jalen Mayden (Sachse)

Beck offered him while at tOSU
and Herman offered while at UH

Recruit/host --

OL Grant Polley (Denton High) -- OL Denzel Okafor
DT Larrell Murchison (Louisburg, NC) -- DT Poona Ford
DE Taquon Graham (Temple) -- WR Davion Curtis
LB Marqez Bimage (Brenham) -- LB Malik Jefferson
CB Kobe Boyce (Lake Dallas) -- CB Kris Boyd

Higs likes our chances with Chisholm and Murchison (not suprising) and Calloway (hard ARK lean)

With Johnson, see how rest of trip goes

Jeff Howe did CB Johnson to Texas yesterday

All 14 of them are now Texas

------------------------

Despite reports of Chaisson having great time at LSU, his last 3 CBs have been to Texas, all by non-UT-related gurus (including one LSU guy -- we will see if the changes that anytime soon)

3 out of every 4 CBs total are him to Texas

Read somewhere that Beck followed QB Tanner Mordecai on Twitter. Interested to see which one of Mordecai and Mayden will be offered first.

Are these CB's within the past 24 hours?

Side note - Marvin Wilson is there with him too, and probably throwing shade on Texas

Another thing to keep in mind is LSU is in a good spot with several other LB's. OLB Willie Gay is trending heavily LSU's way and they may flip both Jacob Phillips and Chris Allen.

The guy's committing to LSU last year and this year is who will be playing against in a couple of years in a home-and-home. Although I'm not sold on Orgeron yet.

I don't think Fitzgerald was oversold. He just wasn't needed because of depth we had as well as Eric Fowler being a tad bit more ready for prime time.

Cedric Bensen was redshirted his freshman year. Didn't mean he and his talents were oversold.

If the Horns can pull in Gary Johnson then I'm excited about our LB rotation next year. Jefferson, Wheeler, Fowler, Freeman, Johnson, McCullough, Hager, Roach, and Hughes (of course Hager, Hughes Fowler and Roach are more pass rushing LBS in the 3/4 scheme). Lots of combinations of speed, coverage skills, pass rushing, blitzing, and run stopping. That,is a deep group. Gone are the days of Tim Cole backing up Malik.
