2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Does anyone think around this time tomorrow that Walker Little Will throw the Horns up? I don't know why but I have a good feeling about tomorrow. Same feeling I had about Malik and KP.
I think he picks Texas. I called my shot on it Tuesday. Fingers are crossed.

I'm getting the feeling we're not going to have much to be excited over in this class. I definitely thought Herman would have a little more immediate success.

All of these sites have no idea just like how close Malik played close to the vest walker is doing that as well. We will see what happens I just think these sites are going with the safer choice of the two.

I'm setting myself up for being surprised instead of disappointed. If Little picks Texas then great, if not, then Oh well. Herman will get his in 2018. Texas has a nice roster to work with right now. Pretty much two deep at every position (except TE). On the plus side, most will be Junior's and Sophomores. 2017 was a year of luxury recruiting in my eyes. Going after the cream instead of base players. I still think players like Calloway, Chaisson, and Benjamin will be in the fold for UT, so it will be a nice class (albeit small).

People don't realize how much Little prioritizes education. He cares WAY more about his education and career than football situation so if he decides Stanford over Texas - Herman should not be penalized or thought any less of as this decision has very little to do with either coaches recruiting and more about the schools themselves

That is on you not Herman. This is expected with a transition class. The only names that can take over a new school and have immediate impact are Meyer and Saban... Everyone else is playing 2nd fiddle until they get relationships established.

He has been Head Coach in Houston for two years and before that he has been recruiting the State of Texas for many more.  He already has those relationships established.  I am sorry but everyone said this guy was a lights out recruiter so it should be making some noise now not a year or two from now.  Everyone says he has great talent now and that we should see a huge jump in victories plus we are one of the top 5 football programs in the nation in money, tradition and all time victories ... We should be seeing some momentum with the hiring of the Hottest new Coach on eveyones list.

Any recruiting problems at UT can be attributed to 3 years of losses by Strong & company. It also reflects that the Strong staff retired its recruiting efforts months ago. Shame on him and his staff. After all, they were still on the payroll.

As I said before if you are expecting a great class his first class here then you should stop drinking the Kool-aid.  It wont happen.

Three years of mediocre football and stagnation with no improvement.

Getting back into the top 20 will bring in the recruits.

I know you don't want to hear it, but it IS reality that it's going to be tough for him to pick up a great class when he only jumped on in December.

Just because he's an excellent recruiter, doesn't mean he can leave one school, go to a better one and just pick it up right there. Part of him being a great recruiter isn't only selling himself, but the university. The program. The team. He has tried that at Houston, and now he shows up on your couch in UT gear? That can throw these kids off.

Also, in the case of an athlete like Little, this kid was NEVER considering UH. He fell in love with another program; campus; team. Now comes along this coach you've heard great things about, maybe even met but didn't even consider because you were NEVER going to attend his school, but he's NOW at a school you WOULD attend. Sure, it's great, but you've kinda been in love with Stanford for some time now.

It really isn't going to be an easy thing.

Absolutely. I wasn't expecting a top class by any means. With that said, I definitely expected to see more excitement from recruits about our new staff. Herman isn't just now getting to know these recruits. He's been recruiting these kids for two years at Houston. He's been recruiting some of these kids since his days at Ohio State.

These kids aren't having to learn who Herman is, they already know him. I wasn't expecting a commitment wave. But I was expecting to see a few recruits making visits as opposed to quickly shutting down their recruitment. It seems as if Herman has been quite a bit more successful with the coaches than with the recruits.

All is good. I'm not writing the class off, we still have some good talent. I'm not writing Herman off, he's still a good coach. I just expected to see more excitement.
