2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Texas not in Eno Benjamin's top 10.

I'm curious why the Horns have never offered him. Do they feel they can flip Robbins or what?
Strong likes bigger backs.

Eno is a stud, but he's also kind of small. This seems like a prospect Strong will watch and evaluate to see how he fills out/grows.

If Texas offered I think Eno would commit too. Texas has other RBs higher on the board. No need to be scaring off prospects higher on the board this early.

Just to clarify: when you say they have prospects that are "higher on the board", do you mean that they're going after  guys with higher star rankings, or are they going after guys who they think will be a better fit for the offense?

Forgive me, I'm still pretty new to following this recruiting thing.

Higher in terms of who the staff prioritizes (whether that's being a good fit or talent).

I don't think Charlie cares on how the recruiting sites rate a player. He has his own rating system.

Sounds like Higs has turned on Gilbert already. Probably setting up the masses for excuses in case team sucks in 2016 so he can campaign to give his bud Strong another year

That doesn't make any sense. If Gilbert is a bad hire then it's bye bye Charlie.

Are members on HD allowed to tell Higs that he sounds like a dick if a member over there thought that? I could care less if we over pay for our OC as long as he is successful.

I don't get it. The play frequency could just be Gilbert's way of grooming his O to a much faster pace. Perhaps its unrealistic intentionally?
Higdon is an old school guy, he's not a fan of spread teams/coaches. Those comments don't even shock me. Higdon's comments about Gilbert have more to do with perceived biases against a specific style of play than Gilbert himself.

People are reading way too much into what Higdon is saying. He's not "setting up excuses" he's just not a fan of uptempo/spread teams.

Just like there were mods on other sites that didn't think Shaka's uptempo/havoc style of play would work in a major conference.

Based on past comments Higdon just isn't a fan of spread/uptempo style of play. That's all this is. Old school guys don't like changes.

I'm sure Strong hates it just as much.

That's BS. Higdon is not saying that. He's pretty much questioning Gilbert's methods and implying that Gilbert was a bad hire even before he's coached one game at UT. Gilbert has been successful as a OC for four straight years that he's been a OC.

I agree with Primal....besides...WTF is he talking about...Realistic???...Jesus...if the pass is incomplete, the damned clock stops. Everybody knows that. Did Higs get an offer from Saban?....Hell....he may as well have parroted the great sabans line that in order to prevent injury they have to wait on the defense.

Boo Higs...why not just put em in dresses?

You have to practice fast so it seems slow when you get to the game. Thats simple, I do think it was a very risky expensive hire but when they offered Cumbie all that money they were stuck with having to offer the next guy a high amount also. Paying a guy that much money that didnt call plays is risky but everyone has to start somewhere.

I coach HS basketball and I purposely practice up tempo, fast break offense with no stops. A new 5 every play. It's for exactly the reason SHA stated above. Its unrealistic to do it in a game, but you practice the plays and get them used to running them without second guessing. It works during our games. When I want to go uptempo, they're aware and run it without problems. Plus it gets them in game shape faster. I get what Gilbert is doing. The pace will slow down in the fall.
