2016 Recruiting - Week #2

Not open for further replies.
TTU recruited Wallace as an ATH (WR I think)

But it looks like we offered as a QB

One of those guys who could play multiple spots

QB Tristen Wallace and RB Brandon Stephens will both be in Austin next weekend

Lots more but these 2 confirmed it within past 24 hours

We actually may have a legit shot with Smith

Both he and his family like Texas, and we waiting for our offer

He will not be at this upcoming JR Day since he was already committed in Vegas for a 7-on-7. He might visit Austin on an UOV soon

He has not fav at moment, so getting him on campus needs to happen

But he is IMG Academy, so there is always that

^^ warroom

We also offered 2016 5-star DB Saivion Smith (6'2,180) from Saint Petersburg, FL

from what i read that he was waiting for awhile for an offer from him...and he and his family are estatic about Texas..and they like what Strong is bringing to the program

Some Trayveon Williams (5'9,188) quotes via Jason Suchomel --

"I called coach Robinson and we had a good talk.  He said the coaching staff had been evaluating me for the longest time, said I had a heck of a year, and he offered me."

"They (Texas) moved up on the list from where they previously were.  I don't have a definite spot but they definitely moved up.

"I like their coaching staff a lot, how they run the program. I like the fan base, the community, the environment, the stadium. I like everything about it."

"I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I've just decided I'm going to enjoy the process and let it go through, weigh my options and make a decision when it feels right in my heart."

"My film and my grades. Just as important are my grades as the on the field stuff.  I feel I'm an all purpose guy, can do everything. I'm smart and have good instincts and good skill."

Some Lil'Jordan Humphrey (6'5,200) quotes via Jason Suchomel --

"It's a blessing to get offers from schools, but I just try to stay focused.  I'm not worrying too much about that stuff.  I don't want it to blow head up too much. I'm just focused on working out, hanging out with friends, living the same life I had before I had all the recognition."

"I just know Purdue, they're telling me as a true running back.  Everybody else, they're just saying athlete, maybe tight end or receiver.  I'm really not sure.  I think i want to stay on the offensive side of the ball but things can always change."

"Texas is a great school academically. And just the name in football - you say Texas, everybody knows it's a football school."

Some Tristen Wallace (6'3,220) quotes via Jason Suchomel --

"We talked (with Watson) a little about their offense, what they're trying to do, what they needed. They said they needed me so they offered me."

Texas and TTU recruited him as QB, while Baylor recruited as an ATH/WR.

"As of right now, I'm committed to Tech. It doesn't change anything. Texas Tech. Guns up."
But he will also be a UT JR Day

im just curious as to which prospects Texas has a legitmate shot

Yep.  This is a completely new world for us.  It's even at variance from past Charlie behavior, so something new for him as well.

We dont really know how this approach will work and only time itself can give us the answers.

However, until then, the one thing we should be able to count on is that Strong & Co. have a well-earned reputation as some of the better talent evaluators in the college game today.  On this basis alone, we have good reason to be optimistic.

I have always felt and believed that we could become, if we wanted to and were willing to put in the effort, one of the strongest national draws for high school recruits.  I was always disappointed in Mack Brown's effort in this regard, and I was one of the ones you would see on past message boards regularly calling them out as lazy for it.  I thought we squandered our opportunities and let our brand go to waste in this regard.  Those guys literally phoned it it (from the golf course!).

Charlie seems determined to make this happen now.  I think it's smart.  We have a national brand (even international brand, right  Steve?) -- and have been dumb not to fully take advantage of it in the past.

I guess we will see now if I was right.

Lastly, I am fully aware that this approach has drawn some well-deserved criticisms in the past.  Namely Alabama's method.  But I simply dont see Strong going down the same road as them.  I cannot see him ever being knowingly and intentionally unethical.

But, as with all things, we will see.

We also offered DE Brandon Bowen (6'5, 220)

from BON --

http://www.burntorangenation.com/2015/2/19/8072559/brandon-bowen-texas-longhorns-offer

A quick-twitch athlete who played defensive end in the three-down looks for Byron Nelson, as well as wide receiver, Bowen is a fantastic athlete with reported 4.63 speed in the 40-yard dash.

He projects as a FOX end in the Texas defense if he elects to join the class. Opposing linemen often have difficulty getting their hands on him because he understands how to use his own hands and has a certain slipperiness to his pass-rushing arsenal.

When unblocked or pursuing plays, his athleticism shows in a major way -- he can both change direction and chase down plays well down the field with his top-end speed.

To put it simply, the upside for Bowen is significant because of his high-level physical tools, which make him a no-brainer offer.

I believe Juan its safe to say CS and Co. have really put the fear of God in everybody he made it fun for us to love recruiting again and able to get Longhorn fans excited again..

Hurts is only a QB... He wont entertain anything but QB. Kid has a Cannon but does need work on his lower body mechanics. Wallace may be the freakiest ath in Texas but he isn't even the Best quarterback on his team. And that is the truth.

Sounds like some good news coming for the 2016 class soon. Both Hemphill and Johnson are tweeting that "good news should be coming soon for the 16 class".

247 thinks it's a QB. Sounds like it may happen tomorrow too.

hmmm wonder who could it be?????
Zane Ellis is friends with Hemphill. He DM'ed me who it is. He doesn't want me to share who it is, so I'm not going to spill the beans. I think there will be some excited Longhorns if he what he told me is true.
