Some would say his numbers are a little deceiving. He doesn't throw down the field that much. Gilmers offense consist of a lot of quick screens. When you have Kris Boyd and Blake Lynch catching a four-yard pass it turns into a 80 yard touchdown.............

Similar knock on Hubenak, who also threw for a lot of yards.

No ones sleeping on the kid.

In the right college program he can improve his arm strength, which in my opinion is at most a C+.

I've heard others say that Hubenak yards are almost all a product of YAC, and that Hubenak would need to be in a completely wide open spread offense to have any chance of succeeding at the next level.

now even though i dont agree with that i think any coach can give this kid a chance no matter what grade it is...but thats jmo

If there weren't scholarship limits - sure.  But UT already has their project QB (who has agreed to grey-shirt), they don't need another one right now.  Too many highly rated players still on the board.

McLane Carter (~6'3,190) is Gilmer's QB who has no offers despite 47 TDs/2 INTs with almost 4,000 yards passing - state champs in Class 4A Division II
More stats FWIW --

219 Completions of 294 Attempts – 74%
3979 Yards, 48 Touchdowns, 2 Interceptions
248 YPG
99.75 Average Passing Yards per Quarter
QB Rating 152.7

HUDL shows him running a 4.8 (but he did not run much)

Carter did not play for Gilmer last year. Played for another school not sure of name but something like Saledo. Therefore he is under most schools radar.Plus he is a lefty might go against him.

I think he was at Salado in 2013 as a junior

He won state with Gilmer in 2014

Here is a local TV piece on him http://www.ktre.com/story/27553268/gilmer-continues-great-play-at-quarterback#.VLPu04MIIOE.twitter

If you watch it, will see a long Kris Boyd (#21) touchdown

He didn't run at all. When Gilmer wanted the QB to run or start running zone reads they'd put Lynch at QB.

FWIW, at Blinn, Hubenak also threw for 4,052 yards (8 games)

47 TDs/9 INTs

65% completion

yeah i know hip thats what sucks about these scholarship limits..it gives any coach a headache

and jmo..i think strong is gonna go all in and really push it to where it comes to shove....

in overall i aint worried as to outcome i think strong is gonna do well this recruiting class

Do you agree with the idea that 2016 is the "Year of the Safety" for the state of Texas class?

Yes, Safety is ridiculously loaded next year. Just like QB, it will be telling to see what players the staff targets early. Some of the players are the best athletes on their team and their coaches need them in the middle of the field. If Bedford thinks 1-2 can be converted to CB, it wouldn't surprise me.

This is Bobby Burton's response to a question about John Burt - where and when he'll commit:

I think he'll decide before NSD. I'd put it at 50-50. It's a classic mom-dad struggle which leaves the kid the one in between. He grew up a fan of Texas. His dad wants anywhere but Texas just to spite John's mom, aunt and grandparents.
Thats some messed up stuff.  Feel terrible for that kid if true.  This kind of stuff must happen more than you'd like to think, but damn that sucks for Burt.
