This is a little surprising to me since he has loved LSU for along time and they just offered him.
His OV to Texas is set for Jan 23 (part of the next big weekend)
We def have some momentum right now

Here’s the evaluation on Clarington --
“Texas finally gets the TE of its dreams. This kid is tall, long and athletic is will be a weapon in the passing game. He has the ability to split out and become a mismatch on defensive backs and linebackers and does a good job at getting separation. For a guy his size, he does a pretty good job of making the first guy miss after the catch and he has decent open field speed. While he was split out more than anything in HS, you can tell he has a nasty disposition in the trenches when he plays defense, and that will translate over to offense when he is asked to block as an in-line tight end. You have to block to play TE for Charlie Strong.â€
How he fits at Texas, by Ian Boyd:
“It’s hard to talk about Clarington’s fit at Texas without gushing about the possibilities of a DeAndre McNeal/Devonaire Clarington pairing at the H and Y positions. Clarington has an NFL frame at 6-foot-6, 225, with fluidity and hands to match that allow him to use his size to be a terror on vertical routes. Line up him as an in-line TE after he gains weight or flex him out wide and teach him how to attack the seam and open spaces in the middle and he’ll be a dynamic threat. With those skills mastered in combination with McNeal’s growth into a hybrid H-back who can block in the backfield or also flex out and Texas could have the college equivalent of New England’s old Gronk-Hernandez nightmare.â€

How he fits at Texas: Irvin’s speed, physicality, and solid build could allow him to project all over the field at Texas. For his HS in Miami, Irvin typically just drops into deep coverage and then flies to the football with bad intentions. His instincts are great, his quickness is great, and his tackling is superb. Irvin probably fits best at Texas at safety or nickel where his willingness to get involved in the run game are needed in Strong’s schemes. – IB
Coach says: This kid is a KILLER. This kid is trying to take your soul with every hit he hands out, and he is absolutely fearless when coming up to stop the run and filling running lanes. He plays the game with a swagger that any coach will love and he plays FAST. Even though his size isn’t ideal, you can overlook it in this case. The kid is a like a powder keg waiting to explode every time he takes on a ball carrier. Reminds me a bit of Matt Elam.
How this affects Texas: Irvin is a “Strong kind of guyâ€. Some guys play football for fun, others to inflict pain. Irvin is a pain-guy. At 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, Irvin proves the theory that dynamite comes in small packages. He holds offers from almost every major program in the country, including Texas. Pulling him out of Florida will be a tall task, but Strong ain’t scared. – JW

IMO, we're now at the point where I seriously question the 31 total. Something else is being played here because this staff doesn't resemble a staff working on short numbers. For crying out loud, we've just reached out to a MLB JUCO.
To me, this is evidence how Strong did not and does not care for the talent level, attitude, and types of athletes we have.
