I think it happened with Cory Redding.I can't remember the Horns ever getting a recruit that played the "cap shuffle game". Don't think it'll happen with Malik either.
Horns247 broke the news yesterday that four-star linebacker Anthony Wheeler (Skyline) is planning to take an official visit to Texas during January, but no exact date has been set at this time. According to Wheeler, prior to the start of the dead period on Dec. 15, the Texas coaching staff picked up his recruitment once again and communication began to flow. The staff also watched Wheeler in the semifinals against Allen on Saturday. "Yes, I have been talking to them a lot," Wheeler told Horns247. "They are telling me how much they want me and would like to have me as a player on their team."
With the amount of communication dissipating between the two parties throughout in the fall, Oklahoma had seemingly emerged as the team to beat for the 6-foot-2, 225-pound backer. But that could change as signing day nears. Wheeler has not been on campus this fall while he took an unofficial visit to Oklahoma on Oct. 11 and received an in-home visit from the Sooners on Dec. 11. Wheeler is the No. 167-ranked prospect nationally and No. 22-ranked prospect in Texas according to 247Sports Composite.

With the receiver position being analyzed heavily for Texas' 2015 class, a name that is often forgotten is Carlos Strickland (Skyline). The Texas Tech commit had an in-home visit with the Texas coaching staff Sunday and could potentially be an option for the Longhorns. While he is committed to Texas Tech, the recent decommitment of five-star quarterback Jarret Stidham could have some influence on him. After speaking with Strickland briefly late Monday night, he has also had an in-home visit with California in recent weeks along with Texas. The 6-foot-5, 194-pound receiver committed to Texas Tech in October over offers from the Longhorns as well as UCLA, California and TCU. Outside of Texas, he took official visits to each of those schools as well. Strickland is the No. 139-ranked prospect nationally and No. 19-ranked prospect in Texas according to 247Sports Composite.
Before the start of the dead period Monday, 2016 running back and Baylor commit Kameron Martin (Port Arthur Memorial) spoke with the Texas coaching staff about where he stands on their recruiting board. The news he received on Sunday evening was that the Longhorns would continue to pursue him and that he would be part of their plans for the class in 2016.
As widely reported, Martin was a Texas fan growing up, but when an offer did not come following discussions in the spring, Martin decided that Baylor would be his choice and committed to the Bears in July. He has yet to receive an offer from the Longhorns. So is door still open if the Longhorns decide to make a move and offer Martin in the future? It's cracked, but the longer it takes, the less likely it is that anything or anyone will change his commitment. Through three years at Memorial, Martin (5-10, 180) has rushed for over 2,200 yards and scored 39 touchdowns. He is the No. 136-ranked prospect nationally and No. 19-ranked prospect in Texas according to 247Sports Composite. Martin is the cousin of former Texas Longhorn Jamaal Charles.
This is a 2016 recruit and we're not missing out on Warren. If we miss out on Warren or Soso?
This is a 2016 recruit and we're not missing out on Warren.
I have little confidence in Sosa ever making a visit, much less committing. I think he commits to UCLA before his scheduled visit to UT.
Brossette on the other hand, is a realistic possibility.
