2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Cherry was committed to Tennessee until recently.

The Vol followers claimed they weren't worried because they thought they were going to get Kirkland.

Nevermind that Tennessee is an easy trip to make. No, it has to mean he just likes Tennessee more. smh

I don't think geography rules the day on this one.

Ebberts of BON has now convinced himself Kirkland may go with the good guys

******

The fact that Kirkland moved up his announcement from the US Army All-American Bowl would seem to bode well for the Longhorns, especially after head coach Charlie Strong held his in-home visit with Kirkland Jr and his parents on Tuesday.

He's also said to have a good relationship with the charismatic Newsome, who was on an official visit with the big linebacker to Oklahoma for the loss against Baylor in early November.

And even though Texas didn't offer Kirkland Jr until last April, Strong and his staff were one of the first schools to recruit him, offering the 6'2, 235-pounder in June of 2013 and then hosting him on a visit not long after -- there are some deep ties there between the Indiana product and the current Longhorns staff.

There have been some major swings in his recruitment in the last few weeks. Kirkland Jr decommitted from Michigan in early November, just after taking an official visit to Ole Miss that sparked a major trend for the Rebels in his 247Sports Crystal Ball. Then an official visit to Tennessee, one of the early favorites for his services, sparked a swing for the Volunteers in his Crystal Ball.

But only one of those predictions has come since his official visit to Texas. There may even be some switches before the announcement on Monday.

If he's looking for early playing time, it will definitely be there since Steve Edmond is graduating and junior Dalton Santos has played poorly. With much more prototypical size than likely Texas pledge Cecil Cherry, Kirkland is likely a better bet to contribute early, too.

A few weeks ago, Texas was an extreme longshot to land the nation's No. 4 inside linebacker.

Now, it looks like there could be another big #LetsRide on Monday afternoon.

Westcott's post makes a lot of sense.

Last trip was to Texas. Right after in-home with Charlie he decides to move up his announcement. IMO, that smells of Texas' 21st verbal.

DT Du'Vonta Lampkin took an OV to ou.  Here is what he thought --

"The trip to Oklahoma went good, but I’m still 100 percent to Texas. If anything changes, I’ll be sure to let everyone know. I (still) feel good about my decision and I like what coach Strong is doing with the program. I just went to OU to see what was there, take another official. Right now, I’m still 100 percent strong with Texas."

Ok, we have 20 verbals now with maybe 11-12 more to go.

If I were betting, here's who I think we get to finish out the class:

1. Cecil Cherry, LB

2. Darrin Kirkland, LB

3. A QB from either late or unpublicized recruitment or JUCO/transfer

4. Chris Warren, RB

5. Ryan Newsome, WR

6. Gilbert Johnson, WR

7. Devonaire Clarington, TE

8. Davante Davis, DB

9. Sheldrick Redwine, DB

10. Kris Boyd, DB

11. Nicholas Brossette, RB

12. Tim Irvin, DB

Disclaimer - if Malik chooses Texas, then I might be inclined to add Daylon Mack and I think Texas would make room for both. That's if Mack makes the visit he's rumored to be setting up.

If Kirkland thinks Newsome is going to Texas, it wouldn't surprise me if he picks Texas. Newsome is the most important piece of this whole puzzle IMO.

.....

Hopefully a transfer will emerge as its not a great year for JUCO QBs

IMO, the 2nd half vs. TCU was pretty concerning so far as Swoopes goes -- attitude, effort, body language -- none of it was good.

Further, we dont really have any idea how Heard is progressing, other than a couple of throwaway phrases about him from Watson.

Gentry will RS.

In my view, even if we add a ton of recruiting talent in this class, we still wont win games in 2015 without better QB play.

So, I am hoping one of the transfers works out.

I'm really hoping that Kirkland commits. If he chooses Tennessee, then I'd understand why he would move his commitment date up. His buddy Newsome is also picking between Texas and Tennessee, so I wouldn't be shocked if he made his move hoping that Newsome would follow suit. If Newsome were to commit to Texas before Kirkland commits, it would put pressure on Kirkland to commit to the school his friend was attending.

I'm hoping that him locking down his recruitment shortly after having in-house Texas visits this week means good things for us. The kid is incredibly talented and could be a future first rounder under Strong's guidance.

I love recruiting season but I also hate recruiting season.  This MJ talk is like a roller coaster ride.

In regard to the QB recruiting talk. What's made everyone lose the faith in Heard? We've yet to see what he can do on the field. I still believe he can be an answer to our QB problems. It never hurts to bring in competition tho

The recruiting efforts by the current staff sends out a totally different vibe than the previous regime.  I feel UT is the hunter and not the hunted.  Junior days which led to early verbal commitments led the previous staff to being hunted and rarely flipped or gained a commit late in the process.  This staff seems to pick up steam as it goes along.  That doesn't mean UT will get every player it wants, but I certainly believe that not only has the culture changed within the team, but high school coaches around the country see a significant culture change as to how UT goes about its business in recruiting.

This staff continues to build a foundation and it is certainly alot of fun to watch.

I don't think anyone has given up on Heard at all. I think most here fully expect heard to be the starter when his Junior and Senior season roll around. I simply don't expect him to be ready his Redshirt Freshman and possibly Sophomore year. So with that, I think getting another QB to compete with Swoopes this spring for the next two years is vital.

Agree, but I do believe we are a little gun shy on the QB position due to the last 5 years....

Agreed. There's a natural hesitancy developing among Longhorn fans. Long gone are the days (for now) of seeing a Quarterback and full-heartedly believing that he's going to make an impact on the field quickly after arriving.

anyone seen the twitter post about 30 mins ago from Demarco Boyd?

Does that mean he is excited about texas or that he is committed to Texas?

sorry, i don't have the ability to post on here, if someone else is by a computer, please post it.
