2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

WR Ryan Newsome (Aledo) re: recent in-home:

“Coach Robinson and I just talked about a lot.  He said that I am in a position to start when I get there and that they really need me.†

“That’s a little different with Coach Tommie though.  I know everything that he told me that he won’t elaborate on and he was telling me the truth.†

“He told me that he’s got my back.†

“Yeah, they told me they were going to roll out the red carpet twice as much (for the official visit).  Just that at home feeling is what I am looking for. (Being comfortable) is very big. That’s what makes the programs is the players.â€

Some remarks from DE Quincy Vasser yesterday --

“I’ve been committed for six months, so it took a lot for me to tell the coach I would de-commit.  But at the end of the day it was business, you got to do what you got to do.â€

“One strength would be stopping the run.  Big part of the reason I want to go to UT and expand my pass rushing, to make myself a better pass rusher.†

“Trying to be the best period.  I’m trying to go in an establish myself as a UT player and have people look up to me.†

“(Charlie) Strong was ecstatic on the phone.†

“Who wouldn’t want to be a part of (something like) that?â€

This weekend visitor list per 247

Texas encouraged many prospects that were wanting to take official visits during the season to consider taking them following the season. The reason? Charlie Strong and the new coaching staff wanted to spend as much time as possible with the top prospects without being occupied with a game plan and game day events.

Friday will mark the first large recruiting weekend in terms of official visits for the year. Along with several commits who are set to enroll early, the Longhorns will be bringing in a total of three prospects rated four-star or higher, including the No. 14-ranked prospect nationally in Malik Jefferson.
Besides MJ, the early enrollees will be present.  Three uncommitted players, the rest are in the house.

LB Malik Jefferson (Mesquite Poteet)
Things look to be leaning in the direction of Texas A&M for Jefferson, but an official visit to Texas could be just what is needed for Charlie Strong.

LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central)
Close friends with Ryan Newsome, the out-of-state linebacker has shown increased interest in the Longhorns over the last couple of months.

WR Ryan Newsome (Aledo)
A priority for the staff to come in and be a playmaker on offense as a freshman, this will be Newsome’s last official visit of the year.

OL Tristan Nickelson (Navarro) — Committed to Texas
He committed after an unofficial visit to Texas in November, and now the 6-foot-9, 319-pound mid-term enrollee will make his official.

DE Quincy Vasser (Navarro) — Committed to Texas
After a busy week of de-committing from Georgia and committing to the Longhorns, Vasser will be back on campus after an unofficial visit just last week.

OL Garrett Thomas (Many, La./Many) — Committed to Texas
Thomas has had to reschedule his official visit once, but the early high school graduate will definitely be on campus this weekend, making the trip from Louisiana.

OL Connor Williams (Coppell) — Committed to Texas
Like Thomas, Williams had to reschedule his visit to work better for the Texas staff. He has been on unofficial visit this fall already.

3-Star TE

— Twitter API (@twitterapi) November 7, 2011

According to another site, Texas stopped by on Monday to see him.  He also just received an offer from SMU.  Have to believe if he got any sort of offer from Texas it means that coaches aren't confident in catching either of the two TE whales they've been chasing.

Scout says

Newsome is one of the premiere speed prospects in all of the country. He is also one of the top-rated slot wide receivers and deservedly so. he brings exactly what you want in this style of player. He can line up all over the field and gash defense with big plays and can score any time he gets his hands on the ball. A dangerous return man, which is an understatement, because he is the No. 1 guy in Texas High School Football in punt return TDs.
good short Scout film here where he describes himself -- compare was he says he is looking for in a coaching staff to what he wrote in his tweet above   http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7045157#.VICzf6YFH5w.twitter

Here is Newsome 2014 highlight film

They also offered 2016 Tony Gaiter today, who is from the same high school as Irvin

I am surprised that DL recruits like Daylon Mack and Keke are not 100% leaning towards Texas.

Why in the hell would a DL recruit pick ags over Strong.  DL are practically golden under Strong and Rumph

Think about it.

The reason that you and me and a lot of people are surprised is because we don't think like and see things like 17-18 year olds do.

It's the perception of UT and aggy among Texas high school kids. I teach at a high school in Houston and right now aggy is the "it" school. The Johnny football mania is still present in the back of their minds. UT will get it back, it's just going to take time

Wilkerson  talked to Malik's mom and she apparently said something along the lines of aggy isn't in the lead. I don't have a subscription at scout so that's second hand info, so take it as you will. Wilkerson is clearly one of the closest to Malik because he keeps getting interviews with Malik and his family.
