Some more on the rash of Florida offers today --

http://texas.247sports.com/Article/Texas-Longhorns-Recruiting-Class-2015-Charlie-Strong-Offer-32037971

"...... The highest ranked prospect of the group is Shawn Burgess-Becker (Pompano Beach, Fla./Monarch). At 6-foot-1 and 185-pounds, Burgess-Becker holds offers from all over the country and has been committed to Alabama since April. He checks in as the No. 117-ranked prospect nationally and No. 21-ranked prospect in Florida according to 247Sports Composite and will be tough to flip from the Crimson Tide.

The first prospect to report an offer from the Longhorns on Tuesday was Tim Irvin (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian School), a 5-foot-9-inch, 186-pound athlete who was offered as a defensive back by the Texas staff. He is currently uncommitted with Miami holding the edge in his Crystal Ball predictions with 93-percent of the picks. Irvin, who holds offers from Florida, Miami, Georgia, West Virginia and Alabama among others, is the No. 197-ranked prospect nationally and No. 29-ranked prospect in Florida according to 247Sports Composite.

Jaquan Johnson (Miami, Fla./Killian) has been committed to Miami since August, but that didn’t stop the Longhorns from pulling the trigger on Tuesday. Johnson (5-foot-11, 180) is the nation’s No. 175-ranked prospect and No. 26-ranked prospect in Florida. He also holds several other offers including Cincinnati, Florida and Clemson.

The No. 43-ranked prospect in Florida, Davante Davis (Homestead, Fla./Booker T. Washington) is 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and reports offers from Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Florida, The schools atop his crystal ball, however, are Miami (57) and Ohio State (14).

An Ohio State commit, Carlton Davis (Miami, Fla./Norland) is 6-foot-1, 182 pounds and the No. 100 player in the state.

Strong is trying to poach Sheldrick Redwine (Miami, Fla./Killian) from his old school, Louisville. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound Redwine is committed to the Cardinals over offers from West Virginia, Minnesota, Arkansas and UConn. He's the No. 114 player in Florida.

Texas is already making a surge for Ronnie Hoggins (Pompano Beach, Fla./Monarch). The 5-10, 165-pounder, the No. 135 prospect in Florida, sits at 78 percent Wisconsin and 22 percent Longhorns. Hoggins has offers from Louisville, TCU and Cincinnati, as well."

Guice just decommitted from LSU. Very interesting. 1) Not sure how that will impact Brossete. 2) Guice had big interest in Texas at one point.

Would be a good get .....

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! One of my favorite backs in the class. Strong needs to make this happen.

No! No! No! No! This could really hurt our chances with Brossette. Unless Grice is willing to commit to Texas, then I'd be happy.

I don't think it hurts all that much. Fournette is the reason Brossete is looking at other schools.

TE Will Gragg (ARK) is still supposed to be taking his OV to Texas this weekend.

JUCO QB/ATH Jason Smith (Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C.) -- Ranked #1 as JUCO ATH by 247
Current Auburn commit
Koenning recruited him out of HS (Mobile) while at Mississippi State

quotes from 247
"They told me I could play quarterback, and if that spot doesn't work, they have receivers leaving so they'll give me a shot there," Smith told Justin Hokanson of 247Sports. "I'm thinking I may visit this fall for a game."

"I know Coach Strong coached one of my favorite quarterbacks in Teddy Bridgewater and I'm as mobile as him. That's a factor in why I'm interested in Texas," Smith said.

I will say this. I don't think it's coincidence that Houston tweeted that he might take visits, that Brossette is visiting Texas, and Guice decommitted. All these things happened within hours of each other. From what I've read Brossette has a strong interest in Texas and Guice was really high on Texas before he committed to LSU. It would not surprise me if Texas has backed off of Houston. Nothing against the kid but he's not in the same league as Brossette and Guice. Actually Johnson, Stevenson, Warren, Brossette and Guice are all in a different league in comparison with Warren. I don't think we get all 5 of those guys, but I think we have a decent shot with both Warren and Brossette. Not sure if Strong wants to take 5 RBs, so it wouldn't surprise me if we've backed off of Houston based on his performance so far this year and other RBs on the table.

Possibly grade issues here (Guice)

I'd be good with both Brossette and Warren. I feel like Brossette is the back of the future for any program he joins at this point. I like Guice, I just don't like him as much as I like Brossette.

Based on the film I have seen, Guice is the most impressive RB in this class. They both look like potential franchise backs however. I get the sense there might be other issues with Guice. He was suspended from his team at one point I believe and I never heard the reason.

Strong must be tired of fooling around with some of these UT guys. You have to get guys that really want to be here... I think its a good idea to reach out and try to pull some out of state kids.

i am most certain that coach strong is indeed put off as per the arrogance of some of these so called DIVA recruits.  everyone knows that they have become entranced as per the glamour of aTm as well as the burgeoning power surge of baylor and so forth.  once TEXAS get's it's act together regarding the SEZ stadium renderings / concepts, and other facilities upgrades... maybe recruitment momentum shall once again turn in our direction.  aTm, losing a portion of it's football games, brings them back down to earth, in spite of the ultra glamour of their beautiful new palatial facilities.

Sounds like Anthony Wheeler has Texas and OU tied for the lead in his recruitment. OU was ahead before the game this past Saturday. Wheeler must have liked our D. Per Scout.

Per our recruiting guy Richard Davenport via Twitter: Dumas TE Will Gragg has rescheduled his OV to Texas to a later date. Will not visit this weekend. @W_Gragg7
