Longhorn Scott on
Connor Williams --
"...... In looking at his offer list, it's pretty clear that he's better regarded by college coaches than he is by those in the recruiting industry.
The other major competition came from Oregon, as Williams made a sumer visit out to Eugene, but ultimately chose to remain in his home state for play for Wickline.
A mid three-star prospect, Williams is ranked as the No. 79 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 92 player in the state of Texas, which is good enough to land at No. 739 in the country in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
As expected for someone of his size and build, the major attribute for Williams is his feet and overall athleticism. He's a good pass blocker be because of that body quickness, but he's going to need time in the weight room and technical work to improve a punch that is far from elite at this time.
As he grows in strength in his upper and lower body, he should be able to improve in getting displacement, but right now he projects as a guy who would excel in the outside zone and pin-and-pull type schemes that Texas will likely use and Oregon has relied upon for some time.
Again, the offer list from some high-level programs that run extremely effective spread offenses indicates that those coaches think he is a fit in their schemes.
And that's not even mentioning the track record of Wickline, who has now assembled an offensive line class that currently rivals the 2013 group that was so heralded by former head coach Mack Brown when it signed. The group now consists of Williams, Houston Westfield offensive tackle Toby Weathersby, Euless Trinity offensive guard Patrick Vahe, Huntsville offensive tackle Ronnie Major, and Many (La.) offensive lineman Garrett Thomas.
Williams is the 15th pledge in the class, which ranks No. 16 in the country and No. 1 in the Big 12 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings."
