2014's Key Ingredient - Part 2 of the Texas preview

I agree 100%.

With the offense changing to pro-style, our kicking game can't afford to give up yards.

It's safe to say that this team will play solid, smothering defense and have a run-first, clock-chewing offense.

Punt & Kick coverage play directly into the defensive strategy.

Punt & Kick return can really help the offense.

Field goals & Extra Points are going to be critical.

I don't remember a year where I felt like special teams was more important than this one. It's central to everything this team wants to do.....and it's the single biggest unknown on the team. That's a concerning combination.

Very well done. . . .and great point about the "hidden yards" from the punt team. . . .

When judging STs, everyone wants to simply look at the 1 skill player (or 3 if you count the snapper & holder on FGs and punts) involved and pass judgement. But there are 10 other guys (8 on FGs & punts) on STs. If these guys all block well and get down field, stay in their lanes and tackle well our special teams will be OK.

STs are also a great opportunity to create TOs. I'd love to see us knock some balls loose and block some kicks.

As DKR said, STs are 1 3rd of the game.

Hook 'em.
