2013 Recruiting Class is well under way!

With NSD only a couple of weeks away the staff is already hitting the ground running with the 2012 class. Several prospects are visiting Austin this weekend. Notably Texas is pursuing several quarterbacks, JT Barrett and Tyrone Swoopes. Same like this year - A passer and an athlete (Brewer /Overstreet). Barrett is a nice drop-back guy and Swoopes is a quick,Vince Young-esque qb. Personally I would like to see us go back to a runner/passer but I do not think Ash is the guy to accomplish that.

With Raulerson signing early (and most likely enrolling early), Texas is ain't playin' around. Now let's talk Tyrone Swoopes.... Swoopes was the first 2013 target to be offered a scholarship and rightfully so. Dude is a baller. Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Oregon are just a sample of the myriad of team that want him. 6-5, 220lbs and the nephew of WNBA superstar Sheryl Swoopes.

Junior day this weekend brings the following stud prospects to campus:

Jake Oliver, WR - Jesuit High Dallas

Naashon Hughes, LB - Harker Heights

Tyrone "The Equalizer" Swoopes, QB - Whitewright

Next weekend is 2nd Junior Day and JT Barrett and Kenny Hill (QB's) will be in Austin. What is the likelihood Mack and Company pursue either of these guys if Swoopes commits soon? Not sure Swoopes will give it up early. He may drag it out because of the other offers he has.

No commits today, not even Swoopes! Not sure what the staff thinks of him. I mean they obviously think he has tons of potential but he plays 2A ball. The JT Barrett vs. Swoopes argument is alive and well. Barrett comes to Austin for a visit in a few weeks. WIll be interesting, especially if he gets an offer then and Swoopes is not committed by then.

We have three qb's coming to Austin for JD2. Don't hit the panic button because the commits will happen. Everything I read says Mack is not pressuring these kids and wants them to think/talk thoroughly with their families before giving verbals. There were 4 offers made over the weekend and if you are wondering who they were given to, here they are:

Durham Smythe (Tight End), Kyle Hicks (DB/RB), Ra'Shaad Samples (WR) and Justin Manning (defensive tackle).
