This June my wife and I celebrate 10 years of marriage and we're trying yo decide where to go.

We would like to go somewhere within a 6 hour drive of Knoxville so we won't be too far from the kids. We've looked at Savannah, GA and a few places in South Carolina.

If any of you guys can offer some suggestions and maybe resorts/hotels in the area along with things to do/see, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!

Lukus! Congrats!  Your wife is a trooper.   :P

I highly recommend Charleston.  One of my favorite cities in the US.  We stayed at the Charleston Place and beds were so comfy and awesome location too.  And if you're a foodie like me, Charleston's the food capital of the South.

If you're looking for something beachy, Charleston's a short 2 hour drive to Myrtle Beach.

I second this.  Charleston Place is a GREAT hotel and right in the middle of everything good about Charleston.

in my never humble opinion, kids should not be a consideration for an anniversary trip. you need time alone without thoughts of kids. leave them with someone you trust, and take her to somewhere she has always wanted to go, the kids will be fine.

I subscribe to this theory. If you're going away, then get away. Don't plan it around the kids. I took my wife to Kauai for our 10th. She loved it and I was the greatest man in the world, (which, of course, I am.)

Go big or go home, young Lukus

I hear what you guys are saying and I'm 100% with you...

That said, it's the wife's request, not mine.

the guys are right. get grandma or someone you trust to watch the kids and get on a plane to NYC, SF, Chicago or some other fun town. if something DID happen at home, a 3 or 4 hour flight gets you back quicker anyway.

unless of course the plane is hijacked or goes down.

I spent part of two summers in Charleston with a gf (technically Mt. Pleasant from which you could see Fort Sumnter).

We spent alot of time out at Sullivan's Island which has a nice beach.

I also surfed quite a bit while I was there (taking breaks while writing).  - the best spot for that was probably Folly's Beach.

There is water all around with a couple of rivers coming together at the ocean,. I found their inland waterways very interesting.

And, of course, Charleston does a fabulous job of preservation of historic buildings (the few the Northern aggressors did not bomb to smithereens).

If you like this sort of stuff, you will love it there.

Lotsa great golf nearby too but prolly wrong time of year.

Here a couple of books set there if you are into that sort of thing

Savannah is great Lukus, your wife would love it.

And here's a little bit that folks didn't know - The idea for HornSports was conceived in the hotel bar at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah.

Also a bit of lore that needs verification; Written in the men's room of the very same Hyatt is "For a good time call Aaron C 832-xxx-xxxx"

If y'all happen to be there, a pic of this would be fun!

If it's not there, I guarantee you it will be when I'm done!
