I found this interesting .. . .

Although Bridgewater is the highlight on Watson's resume, further examination may find Watson as the perfect candidate for Texas' current offensive woes.

There's no doubt that Charlie Strong and Watson must rectify the quarterback conundrum on the 40 Acres. What gives me optimism about Watson is that he's never been married to a certain type of quarterback to run his system ? his background is littered with all types of quarterbacks of all shapes, sizes and skill sets and he's had varying degrees of success with all of them.

He's had experience with west coast guys, dual-threat guys and traditional pocket passers. His most successful pro-style quarterback is easily Bridgewater. His best spread guy is Joe Ganz (2008), who set 20 school passing records under Watson at Nebraska. Watson's best multiple offense signal caller is Joel Klatt (2003-2005), who threw for over 7,500 yards and completed over 61-percent of his passes at Colorado. He's also had a lot success with dual-threat guys, specifically with Taylor Martinez (2010), who was awarded Big 12 Freshman of the Year under Watson, rushing for nearly 965 yards and throwing for over 1,600 yards.

Some offensive systems are married to a certain skill set at quarterback. Watson's system can accommodate a myriad of skill sets at the position. Now, that's not saying that Watson doesn't prefer a specific skill set at the position. It's like a man's preference ? you may prefer blondes, but that doesn't mean you'll reject an indecent proposal from Megan Fox or Beyonce.

That's Shawn Watson in a nutshell.

He's not married to a certain type of quarterback, but he's been able to do more with less at the position over his career, which could be just what the doctor ordered for the Longhorns."

I'll be interested to see if Watson & Wickline tend to focus on a certain style of player while here. I am impressed by Watson's versatility above, but he didn't have much choice since he was job hopping. With some stability I wonder if he'll gravitate toward a certain style or just recruit "the best available player" a la the NFL Drafting technique.

Based on early recruiting targets.  ..it would seem the answer is no.. .

Though the NM kid is not a statue so my guess is he looks passer first. . .mobility 2nd. . .
