When did you start to follow college football? For me, late 1968. You?

The first Longhorn game I ever saw was the 1969 Shootout in Fayetnam.

I was hooked that day.

I watched Texas beat Tennessee in the 1969 Cotton Bowl. I became a Longhorn fan that day.

My first memory of college football was listening on the radio and hearing Chris Gilbert take it for a long score. Whether that was '66, '67 or '68, I couldn't tell you. Probably '67. My earliest memory is a Fredericksburg Billies game.

I think it was 1961. My uncle, his father being a judge who had connections, introduced me to several players. The following year I met Tommy Nobis and Pete Lammons. I was young and short and they were huge. They looked like the Hulk and Thor (Marvel characters). My uncle bought me a Texas T-shirt and a Texas pennant. Before that I read sports pages of articles about Darrell Royal and players.

I used his number, 25, in little league, Junior High and Freshman and sophomore years. I used his number even in other sports.

I really didn't start watching the Longhorns until 1987. I was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan back then, but when I had HS teammates Johnny Walker, and Keith and Kerry Cash (I was a lot younger than them) go there I started watching religiously. Patterned my game after Brit Hager after that. Prior to that, I loosely followed, but I really got invested in 87. I did love me some Eric Metcalf during that time.

On a side note, I was very pissed that Wilbur Odom didn't go with the Cash's and Walker. I think he went to Michigan and saw the field only once or twice.

My aunt attended Texas in the mid-90s. Took me to my first Texas game in '98 when I was 10 years old. Have been die-hard ever since. Have always appreciated my aunt getting me to a game first in a big family where nearly every Big 12 school was accounted for back then lol
