Street should have a statue - he posted a perfect 20-0 record, the most wins without a loss in Longhorns history.
As a pitcher he was twice All-American who threw the only perfect game in University of Texas baseball history.

I remember when I saw this play unfolding and shouting NOOOO and then YESSSSSS. Still ranks # 3 in my book of al time greatest plays, whoever #11 was that threw the block to spring JB so he completes the pass he was an unsung hero

Too bad this seems lost to history. When I saw someone post on here that VY was the greatest player in Texas history I thought of Earl and Nobis'...and then I started thinking that VY might not have been the greatest QB. By every metric possible Street might come out on top

Each to his own. VY is the greatest of all time to me. Watching VY convert so many of 4th and 15+ etc. he was just unstoppable and could carry Texas. My office is full of VY custom art and memorabilia.

I have no beef calling VY amazing and fabulous. I only say it is not entirely correct saying he is the GOAT...He certainly deserves to be in the conversation though...I just say for every outstanding thing VY did , there is an equal play for Street.

Vince and his jackhammer feet.

Street in three years had 1800+ passing yards and 800+ rushing yards. Less than a thousand yards a year. Except for wins what metric are you referring to?

to keep everything in context, not many of us old enough to see James Street play plus its was way before, you tube and the internet, VY might have been the single most display of a player putting a team on his back and willing them to winning it all. Its not wrong of you think JS is the greatest or VY is the greatest, heck QE may end us having a career defining play that we will remember for decades

Undefeated as the starting QB on a team that ran an offense that passed less that a dozen times a game

My family friend and former lawyer has less than 20 receptions in his career as a WR, but he has 3 Cotton Bowl watches in his trophy case

This. It was totally different era and the game was played much different than it it now.

James did a pretty good job of putting the team on his back as well in the 1969 Arkansas game when he ran 42 yards for a TD and then threw the long pass to Randy Peschel on 4th and 3.

Then against Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl game, he brought them back from a 10-point deficit to win. In the 4th quarter, down by 3, he led them on the game-winning drive that included two 4th down conversions. One of which was a pretty infamous pass to Cotton Speyrer.

Yes the game is different. Most games are like 6 man football. That is what most fans now days want to see.

Like a base ball game 1-0 is boreing but not too me.
A 20 game win streak is not happening too often. James and Vince both were great just different era.

IMO counting the whole career H S college and pro. Bobby wasbetter than bothl Any one know who was Layne back up his freshman year?

I don't know the long story but the short version per a friend of mine is it's political. James did some stuff that was frowned upon back in the day. Be that said, I would have no issue at all with a statue of him and he should be in the ring of honor.

I'm I the only on that watched the volleyball game last night vs Tennesse? Man, what a thriller! The Horns were down 2-1 and Tennesse ahead 23-20 just 2 points from winning the set and match. However, the Horns came back to win the 4th set 26-24! Then after being up 14-10 in the 5th set, Tennesse came back to tie it at 14s. The Horns scored the next two points to take the match to advance!

The next game is going to be a tough one vs Stanford in Palo Alto, who swept Texas at home earlier this year.

The last two years of VY, Texas was 24-1 ending on a 20 game winning streak. Street averaged about 270 yds rushing and 615 yds passing a year. It was a different game. But there is only one metric they are comparable on and that is wins.

If VY would have been allowed to play on that team, do you think he could have handled the wishbone?
